Mileage?

What kind of gas mileage are you guys getting from a somewhat agressive throttle hand and a stock bike?

How much will slip on's and a dyno run effect it?

Thanks!

nuhawk 12-20-2006 08:29 PM

My gas light comes on right at a hundred miles. I don't mess around anymore. I find gas! Dyno is only going to tell you how the machine is delivering power.

With a set of MiG slip-ons and no other engine work, I would get 90mpt before the RLOD came on. This was also with a +2 rear sprocket.

Edit - forgot to add, I weigh 235 pounds, and about 255 with full gear.

Hawkrider 12-20-2006 10:58 PM

Aggressive as in track riding, RLOD at 90-95 miles. This is with Hindle slip-ons, filter, and jet kit. Riding around town, and even in the twisties I can get upwards of 130 mpt before RLOD.

EngineNoO9 12-21-2006 12:05 AM

all depends on the riding... highway is around 140miles before the light comes on, around town normally about 100, spirited riding anywhere from 90-130 - really depends on if it's really twisty so I'm accelerating out of the turns a ton or if it's a lil quicker riding sweepers and shit

Does anyone know how much fuel has been used when the light comes on?
The brocure says it has a .7 reserve does that means you are using 3.4 before the likght comes on?

nuhawk 12-21-2006 06:36 PM

Yes, I think that is correct, Auron! If you're new to the Superhawk and having a hard time getting used to this mileage thing you're NOT alone. I was floored that it used so much gas. It didn't stop me from turning the dial but I was really surprised. After running out a couple times, I learned to respect the light. I don't trust the light for more than 15 miles once it comes on.

On my '03 I can get about 45mpg on the freeway, cruising at 75mph. Really aggressive canyon riding nets about 28. That translates to (almost) 160 mile freeway range and about 100 canyon miles on 3.5 gallons of fuel, still leaving .7 gal of reserve. I'm running Jardine RT-1 Hi mounts with stock jetting.

Auron 12-21-2006 08:36 PM

Sounds O.K, I live in Denver so mounting slip-on's might even me out, no? Is there a popular slip-on that works well with stock jetting? Definitly looking for one of the quietest available.

tommygdbr 12-25-2006 08:12 PM

slips

I have read on here that baically all slip ons will work fine with stock jetting at the altitude of Denver. I live in Albuquerque, NM and a local dealer said stock jets will be fine at our 5k feet above sea level.

denmah 12-26-2006 07:30 AM

i used to have the light come on at 85 miles when i was out makin it hurt.

my bike dyno'd 108whp and 70ftls

highway riding was 130s

Hawk996 12-26-2006 09:22 AM

90 miles before the light. All my buddies have finally come to grips that I just don't want a cig. but I REALLY NEED GAS. MIG pipes and a jet kit.

avphil 12-26-2006 12:24 PM

I get about 130 miles before the light come's on, Bike is stock.

thehandyman 12-26-2006 01:54 PM

bigbob65 04-25-2007 11:07 PM

So does the 03 have a fuel light? I let it get down to one bar but that was it, i dont take chances.

ali_squidz 04-27-2007 06:06 AM

100 miles before light....

penst8grad 04-27-2007 08:20 AM

Just checked my mileage from a tank of only commuting...39 mpg. Past experience is that if I'm playing on the mountain twisties it will be about 31 mpg.

jbaxx 04-27-2007 08:37 PM

The '03 doesn't have a light, instead the last bar will flash red when you have .7 gal left. If you're a little unsure of your fuel level, you can just open the gas cap and look for yourself.
