Lowsided today, dammit!!!
 

I broke the Soups cherry today... I was pulling into work, and somebody leaked something out of their vehicle all over the place... I was at a nice lean angle, turning right, and whoop! The front wheel of the Soupa Hawk washed out, and down I went. Got a nice rash on the knee, and my hip feels like I got shot by a cannon... the bike fared well, needs a new blinker, some paint work on the front fairing right side, and the engine case got scraped to shit. Some small scrapes on the can on that side too, which I don't mind since new cans are on the way. I think my tires suck, honestly... I am due for some new ones and I think that was why it slid.:mad:

Sure is scary when you are down on your hands and knees watching your bike flat-spin on it's side across the lane into oncoming traffic and your head just bounced off the asphalt, isn't it?

Hate to hear that ! At least your OK .

The thing that I'll never forget is the scraping sound as I watch my pride and joy slide along the ground! Up here in the mornings now it's only a couple degrees above zero - cold ashphalt and cold tires = never a good combination. Glad you're OK.

Still limping and collecting parts to get going again after my crunch....oh well...sometimes you're the bat, sometimes you're the ball.

Mr Toad, I will hear that scraping in my nightmares tonight, I bet...

Sorry to hear about your mishap.... glad to hear you're OK and at least it wasn't like the time I lowsided mine....... they slide a loooooong way when you lay them down at around 70......:eek:

Yup - my shoulder's finally healing from my unexpected ejection; have the bike's bodywork apart in the garage hanging from the ceiling after the first coat of part following plastic welding.

Rash sucks.. Wait till it starts to tighten up, it really starts to hurt, especially a knee.

Glad to hear you are not hurt too bad.

A wreck like that hurts the pride as much as anything else. I prefer to crash doing something crazy cool.

Heal up and get the Bird back into shape.

+1... lol.. and LOUD... seems like the plastic amplifies the sound. Sounds like $100 bills vanishing.. fast.

Good thing is yourOK. My ankle still hurts from my accident in May. My bike was fixed way before I could ride her. Take Care.

Rubber is cheaper than plastic..Learned that lesson the hard way with a Ninja....Glad to hear your not seriously injured...
I think they slide just as far doing 30mph..LOL...or at least it felt that way...

And they make pretty sparks that fly around real nice........:eek:

damn, oh wellan accident you pull out alive is a blessing, glad your ok, rash heal and bike is only material, but we forget too soon that we are lucky and then worry about plastic.
But I admit that scraped bling is a major PITA and comes second after being hurt.

I have to say I have been hurt much worse falling off of bicycles... and I am almost in no rush to patch up the Soup so fast... I am of the mind that if it is already scratched, it frees you up to ride much less conservatively. What I mean is, a little more aggressiveness can come through in the riding style... not riding like an asshole or anything, just, well, you can ride like you ain't afraid of falling, you get me?

sure do, totally get the point, it's the reason I don't push the Hawk too close to it's limit, it's still in perfect condition, when the rear tire start to slip, I stop there. There is always some positive side at something, they are just shaded by the obvious huge bad side, but focusing on the good helps to forget the crappy side. Push the thing to it's limits, but watch for the trees and stuff, bring it to the track full gear and have fun, may want frame sliders tough, that engine case will start puking oil or stator parts !!

That was the first thing I checked when I picked her up, bent and broken.

When I dropped mine, it was slow and totally my fault... I picked it up and rather embarrassed That I even "FELL DOWN" I got back on, in freeway traffic, and found that my rt footpeg was no longer there. I had just gotton off of a midnight shift and was on my way to court. After finding out I was at the wrong courthouse... I had a long morning, ending with a trip by the salvage yard for a footpeg casting. Two months later I haven't even cleaned the boot marks off my rear fairing. I'm somewhat over the fall, still cautious, but figure cleaning up the damage will set me up for my next. glad your OK as I was!

what tires were you running

Fisheye, I was running the ORIGINAL Dunlops, D208 or whatever shitty skins they put on at the factory... they are hard as rocks, and the front was starting to get that peak in the middle. Rears wear flat up the center, fronts get that pointed center strip that makes for some fun handling to say the least!

It is the primary reason why I wiped... That, and I actually just went back and looked at the spot and I determined that the front slipped on a manhole cover, a smooth one with no type of diamond plating on the surface right in the apex of the turn into the parking lot of work.
