Lost Key
I have a 2000 and lost the key and dont have a spare. Is there any way to get one from a dealer with the vin or do i need a new ignition?

two years ago, I was 600 miles from home with an SV650 in my van and my keys were home hanging on the wall(ooops!!).
A competent locksmith had me on the road in an hour. He pulled the ignition, made a several keys and checked the new keys in all the locks (gas tank and seat locks too.) I was on the road with only my pride injured at a cost of $80. Tom |
I had to take the ignition off and went to the nearest Honda dealer where they made the key on the spot. All that's really needed is the # that's on the ignition but I think you have to remove it to see it. It was going to cost $14. but the guy at the dealership gave me a freebie.:bananadance:

I lost a key for my 2002 Supahawk and had one made in Sarasota, FL at Hap's Cycles (Terry knows his stuff) off the duplicate key I had and works find, so no chip in 2002 model's key...

my local dealer gave me the run around when I asked for another key - When I bought the SH it only had one... good info to know!

I'd look around for a Honda dealer that has someone who knows what he's doing...they're out there you just gotta look and be lucky;)

Yeah, take the ignition housing out and take it to a locksmith. They can make an original so it will still fit your seat lock. People bring them in all the time at our shop.

I am a locksmith and a super chicken owner. Honda locks usually have a code, 3 digits, usually as a suffix to a 5-6 digit series, on the inside of the gas cap, maybe on the ignition lock under where it bolts to the top triple. You must pick open the gas cap (oops, locksmith skills) to get to the number, or wrestle the lock off the top triple. (oops, mechanic skills).
Then you go to honda or a locksmith for the key. Or, Call a locksmith and say, Do IT! Have proof of ownership and ID ready. Anything under about $125 is reasonable. Securely yours, Rob |
