The two main issues are replacing the CCT's (Manual or OEM) and R/R (MOSFET if possible) as soon as possible. Both are relatively cheap fixes but can leave you stranded or with a blown motor. A search on those two things will tell you much more about their problems and fixes. Other than that, it's all the typical stuff like flushing the fluids and keeping the chain maintained. Pretty easy!

The petcock is under the tank near the rear and does not need to be shut off. It is activated by a vacuum line when the bike is running and shuts off automatically. There is a manual switch that you can turn for storage or if the petcock isn't functioning properly, but it's not an every ride type of thing.

Welcome!

Sometimes I think Tweety creates new internet personalities once a month, starts a new user account and posts stuff,, so he can come here and blast um...... You know, just to keep the forum alive.

jscobey it's coming but in the mean time.

The petcock is under the tank, mounted to the bottom side, it does have a manual shot off, but is not used unless you're removing the tank,, and even then, in 8 years and having the tank of many times, I've never turned the petcock off.

Maintenance is no different than every other motorcycle out there that is ridden and used in a like way.

Now if you mean preventive maintenance or what some call "Fixes"
Sure there are some specifics to the VTR1000F
Regulator/ Rectifier and it's wiring.
TPS
Cam chain tensioners
Carb Sync
Clutch system
To name a few.
Oh and welcome

The owner's manual contains a lot of helpful information. They're fairly inexpensive. The service manual in the Knowledge Base has a maintenance schedule at p. 3-3.
