Hyperpro rear spring?
 

Anyone try one of these (progressive rate)? I just ordered one as I find the rear spring a bit too stiff for my weight. As I also ride a lot with a passenger, I am hoping that the progressive rate will give me the best of both worlds (more compliant ride when alone along with no/reduced need to play with teh pre-load every time I take someone for a ride).

I've got one on mine. I must say that I don't really care for it. I wasn't sure of the progressive nature but thought I would try it anyway. I've found it to be typical of my other experiences with progressive rate springs on motorcycles - they are the worst of both worlds. Too mushy over little bumps and too harsh over big ones. I've got a preload that is too light for my weight set on it right now. That's the only way I can get the rear to keep from wagging around tight corners. Basically my rear setup is all hosed. I can't say that it's much worse than stock, just different. Certainly not better.

I plan to get a straight rate spring in the correct size for my weight sometime this year. I'll make some adaptors to allow a standard one to fit. That's something that people say is a problem with the stock shock, but it will be easy to fix with a simple piece of aluminum.

thanks for the input. Just curious as to your weight? Prior to ordering the Hyperpro, I checked around for a lighter straight-rate spring but the only one I saw was substantially lighter (too much so I thought) so I opted for this route.

I've had the Hyperpro set with Racetech gold valves for about a year. I'm @ 210 and I found that this set up works great for me.

Front?

I tip the scales at about 225lb. For 'normal' street riding the Hyperpro spring might be ok. I ride pretty hard and spend at least two days a year at the track so I'm pushing the bike pretty hard every time I ride it. I found the Hyperpro to cause some really violent wobbles if the static sag was set properly. Right now I've got screwed up sag numbers just to make the thing handle ok. Obviously this is a problem, which is why I mentioned that I will be switching.

I've got the Hyperpros front and rear and no track days anymore, but for road work the combination with Racetech compression valves works very well. It's quite an improvement from the stock stuff and pretty good bang for the buck!
