How cold is too cold?
 

I typically like to ride my bike till thanksgiving if the snow stays away (Northwestern PA). Just wondering how cold or late in the season many of you ride? My best was two years ago nice conditions 28 degrees - chilly haha

Also is the cold weather terribly bad for the hawk

I rid mine all year around. and have been on it during 40 degree weather ( bike no problem me cold ) lol

I use it as my daily commuter until first snow, (Boston area), and the sand hits the road. Cold isn't really an issue for me comfort wise, but when it is cold I notice my fuel mileage takes a real beating.

Lowest ride was 18 degrees . Yes I froze the boys off.

I ride all back roads to work. 35 degrees F is my limit because dead leaves and pine needles trap water beneath them and just 3 degrees lower and that water could be ice. Not that wet leaves aren't slippery enough. Besides, I'm getting old and anything less than 35 is too cold for me!

When the sand is spread, I put the Hawk to bed...;). The same with the police bike, it's just not worth the risk ..... Ride safe. :cool:

Has to be thirty something for me. Just don't enjoy the ride if it's any colder.

I live where we invented the cold.:rolleyes: Came in to work this morning it was 5°
or 40° if you prefer. That's starting to be pretty cold when you're on the highway doing 120-130km/h

With wind chill accounted for I'll ride down to mid 30's After that I have ridden colder, much colder, but it's just not fun so I choose not to.

COLD! I know cold. It got down to 62 late last night on my way home. So cold had to zip my vented jacket up over my Tee shirt.
SORRY! Spoiled old guy here in SoCal, just had to rub it in!
Think of the positive, you get all that time to wrench and spend $ on your ride.

My coldest would be -16C....After a long winter a buddy and myself were itching to ride and the roads were clear, but had to push our bikes to the top of the driveway due to ice and snow. I think we lasted about 25 mins before we gave up and couldn't feel our hands anymore. Needless to say, we waited for warmer temps.

Yes that is me, 2000 yzf600r end of december in upstate NY in 05 I think may be 04. Was a holiday tradition for my buddies and I to ride down main st on new years eve

You guys got balls...@55-60 deg is my cutoff...I've noticed I cant lay into corners as well since the tires don't get really warm an sticky (well, maybe after some extended riding but by then my junk gets numb- and thats a just plain terrible feeling).
An if I cant ride it hard, why bother? Winter is a great time to do all types of maintenance, upgrades, gadget testing, ect

It was fu*king cold on the Cherahola today. Did it twice, both ways it was down to 75f. I know what you're thinking...jerryh is a badas$

I ride year round & have for 20ish years. 0*F is my coldest from 34th st Manhattan down the FDR at 65mph and over the Brooklyn bridge. My old commute was 70mi each way and used to do it in 18-20F.

I use snowmobile handguards (the only way to warm hands on the highway) and a good tourmaster jacket.

Have ridden over the Brooklyn bridge in 6" of snow, but I highly discourage anyone from trying that.

I just love riding too much to not ride every day.

I did it out of necessity, I wouldn't be caught dead under 60* on my bike anymore honestly :lol: I had a bike licence and a bike, no car licence or car :)

But think of all the snowmobilers and quad guys riding all winter in Maine & Canada (etc).

Its not a big deal, just dress for it and realize traction is comprimised.

Roadracing world has pics of a track test done at 20*F with full lean and knee down (but they used warmers)

My sarcastic old mouth got me again. After rubbin' it in about the SoCal weather, I got caught in a freak 52 degree rain storm:eek: with little gear, 30 miles from home. It was 75 and sunny when I went for a "Jetting" ride. It's all good, if it's on two wheels:lol:.

No not ice racing, on an actual paved track in 20*. Which may be wackier than the ice thing but I am not sure.
