How About a Superhawk Forum Trackday in 2012

I know rider participants in other bike-specific forums and annual gatherings. How about a midsummer 2012 Superhawk Forum Trackday gathering at someplace in the middle of the country like: Blackhawk Farms, Gingerman, Grattan, Putnam, etc. If there were enough interest I'd be willing to make contact to a number of race tracks to find out the cost. Bare in mind that a trackday event is trailer in event, not a ride in event. Yes, you could ride in and ride but think about the consequences on an ontrack accident.

Old Yeller 07-29-2011 01:56 PM

I'd be interested, but unless we could piggyback on some group that already has a track date, it'd be difficult for us to pull off. First, there's probably not more than a dozen of us here that could actually make it. Second, the cost to reserve a track is pretty steep. Third, finding an opening.

jay956 07-29-2011 03:08 PM

yep, u would need over 30 people to make a decent track affordable. just arrange it with a track day org. i honestly think all the track days guys are too spread out, i wouldnt travel very far from the east coast.

Thumper 07-29-2011 03:52 PM

Piggyback on an STT event (SportBikeTrack Time) I am doing a Track night tomorrow night.
4pm to midnight.

Of course i will not be taking the SuperChicken, i will be tarding it.

How about Barber Early Spring. Awesome track and you can go a day early and tour the Motorcycle museum on premises.

Weenie! ;) ;) ;)

Barber would be cool, but it may be a bit far south. That new track opened just north of Atlanta, AMP, I think. Did Bluegrass motorsports park in western KY ever open? Might have to consider doing one on the east coast and one on the west coast and make them regional.

scottiemann 07-30-2011 09:19 AM

I like the regional idea... I live close to the boston area in MA and dont have the most money in the world but would love to meet up with fellow SHF riders and do a track day...

Im not gonna lie though I do as many twisties as I can and ride hard but Ive never been to the track...

+1. I am in RI and would love to do a track day within a reasonable drive...

I think we should do a VTR-only track day! I would go out of my way if it was all VTR's, just to be part of a larger track day, not as much so.

I've retired my VTR from track duty - but that's not saying I can't bring it out again just one more time!!!

YTKinWI 08-08-2011 10:34 AM

It seems with the limited interest to date that a "piggyback" unto a NESBA or STT would be the way to go. There are some STT Nashville speedway trackdays in mid summer. Nashville is a great destination city. Maybe there could be a campout the nite before and/or after the track day.

speedkelly@aol.com 08-08-2011 11:16 AM

I think Nashville Super speedway is going to be closing next year? Do a google search.

I would be up for a VTR trackday. Depending where I'm at?

YTKinWI 08-11-2011 10:49 AM

If Nashville is closing maybe Barber would be a good location. I'll bump this thread from time to time and when the 2012 Trackday schedules are released next Jan/Feb by the various organizations (primarily NESBA and STT) I'll suggest at date & location to see who might be interested.

YTKinWI 01-31-2012 05:11 PM

Bump (as a reminder that this could be fun)

jay956 01-31-2012 05:14 PM

I'd like to, but between racing and coaching it probably wont happen.

No bluegrass never did open and will not for quite some time. They are starting over from scratch. I would be in for something on the east coast

best tracks in the country are in our neck of the woods :P

I would consider splitting gas and hitching a ride with someone out of SoCal for a VTR track day but I think the startup investment would be prohibitive.

Old Yeller 02-01-2012 05:44 AM

See my other thread. I'm trying to set up a get-together at CMP.

What startup? All you need is a bike in good order and a fresh set of tires. If you dont have leathers most tack orgs rent them.

JamieDaugherty 02-01-2012 09:54 AM

I'm all for it! I've been working on a plan for this coming year anyway. I looked into reserving Putnam Park back in the fall. They charge $5k per day. Seems like you would need a lot of people to commit and even then it would be a risky venture for someone.

Old Yeller 02-01-2012 12:59 PM

Jamie,
does that include corner worker costs, or just the track rental?

We need someone rich to just step up and cover the cost for us! ;)

No man, I mean the cost of renting a track specifically for us, getting insurance, etc...I doubt many people will come from out of state to go, so we wouldn't have the $$$ to pull it off.

Best thing to do is to have east/west days probably.

jay956 02-01-2012 03:20 PM

Roebling is something to look into. It's a cheap track and depending on how many people go you don't need many corner workers. I did a private track day there once and we didn't have any. So all you need is an ambulance.

That includes the ambulance only, I think (I'll have to go back and look at the correspondence). Cornerworks are easy: just offer them a free trackday and you will get people lining up. I suggest making sure you staff the corners with experienced people. Don't just get a group of your buddies out there. The cornerworkers are your eyes and ears on the track.

Spoot 02-03-2012 04:21 PM

I'll be at Putnam in August with STT. Hopefully the SH will be all dialed in by that time. I'm organizing a field trip for Wi sportbikes. might be able to include SHforum in pricing/plans...?

Hawkrider 02-04-2012 08:12 AM

If you guys can pull this off I'd sand and repaint my track plastics for the occasion!

Back in 07 and 08 was it (?), we did the SHF meet at Deals Gap. The first year we got like 8 people. The next year like 4 or 5. And that is a cheap weekend most anyone can do, not a track day where leathers, tires, etc. are mandatory. I don't want to discourage anyone from planning this out, I'm just throwing a bit of reality out so nobody is disappointed.

Wolverine 02-04-2012 09:57 AM

I could definitely do a Deals Gap weekend!

superhawk22 02-06-2012 12:42 PM

I just saw this, don't have much in the way of funds but haven't been on the track in a long time and have been really getting the itch lately!

t-dogg 02-06-2012 04:38 PM

^dude we should hit up jennings sometime, im not too far from gainsville
