HID Kits available online
Ok... So i've read threads where people are making there own HID headlight retrofits. However, I don't know the first thing about doing it, nor do I really even want to get into it.
I live in a very rural area, and riding at night on these roads, my light just isn't good enough, even on brights. I am thinking about getting one of those HID kits available online. Something similar to this.. http://www.made-in-china.com/showroo...-12V-55W-.html So.... I know I know, its not as good as some of the self made stuff people are making... But will these actually work? I know i still have the reclector type headlight housing, but in theory, this should increase the amount of lighting, and i can get the cool blue look out of them too right? i don't want to completely waste my money if these are a joke. but any amount of gain in lighting would be worth it to me. What do you think? |

Have a look here... https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...&highlight=hid... Basicly a lowbeam only kit might be a reasonable upgrade... (Meaning you only have lowbeam, but a very good lowbeam)
A high/low beam kit like in the second link will probably be a waste of time and money... The highbeam is usually completely scattered and basicly useless, the low beam is "OK"... but will probably annoy oncoming traffic... The relay kit is instead of the HID... The stock wiring on the hawk sucks... Quite literally... I measured on mine and had slightly less than 12V at the bulb connector, with 13.5V at the other end, and around 12V with 14V going in...
Light output, or luminous intensity drops off faster than the voltage drops because of the relationship between the two. 100% voltage = 100% intensity 95% voltage = 83% intensity 90% voltage = 67% intensity 85% voltage = 53% intensity A H4 bulb is designed to operate near the 14V your alternator puts out. If you are only getting 12V from the battery when the lights are on, you will only be producing 1/2 of the possible light output. The relay kit (you'll need the top H4 one at $47.95) gives you full power to the bulb... noticably better light for less money than the cheapo HID kits... I'd recommend that, or going for it and doing a full retro-fit... |
Thanks man. Let me ask, will I get more light out of a low beam hid conversion than stock type h4 on brights? I'm ok with loosing the brights if the low beam hid will provide more light on dark back roads. We live WAY out and there are no streetlight and roads don't have lines on them. Wouldn't a cheap hid be better for that?

Which one do you recommend. i was looking at the H4 Heavy Duty Single 'Dual Beam' Headlight Relay Kits (LO beam on with HI). he said there is a risk of melting the headlight, is that a problem for the Superhawk? |

I have actually thought this over, my low beam kit is plenty for me, I would sell my hi/lo beam kit pretty reasonable if you interested? Just pm me, thanks!
