Hey hey! - New Guy Here!!!

Just wanted to drop in and say hi. Bought a '98 SuperHawk the other day and I am trying to decide to keep or sell it.........I currently ride an '05 R6 which I'm selling (getting a little to crazy out there for my own good I think.....) to get a track bike and an every day bike in place of..........I got a helluva deal on the Hawk (due to the other guys unfortunate lowside followed by his idea to buy a $30k+ car new), but I had my eye on another bike when I got this one......oh well. I'm located in Charleston, SC should anyone wanna go for a ride or some beers

Hawkrider Mar 3, 2007 06:24 PM

:welcome:!!! I was stationed in Charleston about 8 years ago. Where you at? There's another guy on the forum from Summerville, IIRC.

Ride the bike for a while. I think you'll come to like it. It's just as powerful as the newer 600s with a few minor mods but has about double the torque, and you can't beat torque around town. The bike is pretty responsive to mods, particularly suspension mods and weight reduction. Don't look to get any more than about 110hp without tearing into the motor though (cams, pistons, etc.).

Oh and :worthless:

Well I used to have an RC51.......it seemed to have a little more go juice if you will:twisted: And for torque, I have a Ducati M900Sie as well:lol:

Here are the pics of the bike/damage.........this is still loaded in the truck the day of purchase in these pics, and tell me that isn't the shittiest aftermarket turnsignal mounting job you've ever seen......:

The turn signals are mounted AHEAD of the opening?? WTF?!

I'd watch out for other problems - the previous owner probably thought he needed to change the blinker fluid. :D

I think to P.O should get a hat like this:asshat: with a little work it will be a nice bike you've already got desirable pipes!!!

BMiller Mar 4, 2007 10:31 AM

Thanks for the responses guys...........I was about to make a "Why Can't Super Hawks Wheelie?" thread and put a link to here:lol:

I took her out today (first time since the test ride) to work on scrubbin in the new Qualifiers that were on it. Does the front end feel heavy to everyone? Not heavy like won't wheelie, but heavy in the steering? I guess I'm spoiled by my R6, but I know for a fact the left clipon/riser is tweaked since it will tap the tank with the controls ever so slightly.............I was just thinking to myself "what if the forks are tweaked"...............bout to pull the fairings off and go through the bike and take a look-see. I think in reality it's just the bar and I'm not used to the front, but after a few miles the bike felt VERY solid through some turns and the smile crept across my face..........I think I may be keeping her:twisted:

BMiller Mar 4, 2007 10:33 AM

OH!!! And I threw the Corbin back on her that came with it.........and my ass rejoiced!!!

Motivated!!! LINK

on your first pic with the fairings off the first thing I noticed was the front wheel appeared to be in closer to the motor than it should the other pics looked fine though maybe just the angle but that is the side that took the hit right? might want to look into that?

Hmmm.......let me straighten the wheel and get a profile shot.

maybe it was just the angle of that pic plus between the rc51 and the r6 it surely steers heavy there are a set of stock clip-ons on e-bay right now if you wanted stock?

Hmmm......I may check out the aftermarket options....what seems to be the most common ones (aftermarket) used by SH owners?

sprhawk neil Mar 4, 2007 02:56 PM

either heli bars wich raise the height up but are pricey or votex clip-ons run about 150-175$

marmaladedad Mar 4, 2007 02:59 PM

The R6 definitely flicks in faster than the Superhawk. I had a chance to ride a friend's, and it's telepathic.

Hawkrider Mar 4, 2007 03:10 PM

The Superhawk can be made to do the same thing. Takes some suspension work and raising the rear/lowering the front along with good tires.

Did you check your tire pressure?

I hope your not from the fzr board.............................
