Helibars vs Apex?
Has anyone tried Apex brand riser clipons? I saw Helibar recently re-introduced their VTR1000 clipons and I was going to order a set. But I came upon a type I've never heard of before yesterday -Apex. http://www.apexmfg.com/riser.htm They're about a $100 less, and appear to have a lot of adjustability engineered in.
Appreciate any insights, I've only had my S-hawk a few days, but my first couple rides indicate a need for a slightly higher bar position. (along with mirrors that stick out a bit further) But the ride rocks even as-is! |
Looks like they only have 50 & 53mm available.

I have apex risers and they are great, but I have a CBR1000 front end that they attach to.

No fit apparently

Go straight to Apex's web site, apexmfg.com. They have 41-50mm diameters available, but it is a $30 upcharge for a "special order." I have them with a swapped front end and they are very nice.

Thanks for the additional info.

I have apex on one vtr and heli on the other. Apex are way more versatile. If I had to buy bars now it would only be apex. Got them right from apex.com or whatever their website is.

41mm is correct for a stock front end.....

I'm wondering what the difference is. Since you have both, can you describe? My Heli's hit the hi beam switch at full lock on the fairing, so you can't go any higher, or so I thought??? |

I think they are older helis. They give a rise and can be mounted above or below the triples. The apex can slide up & down for hieght and adjust for and hand angle. (so are way better). I also had a set of vfr bars which are a nice way to raise the bars with stock forks.

I haven't had the stock bars off the bike yet. Do they have locating holes in them for the various instruments on the bars? If so, do the heli's have those locating holes as well? What do you do with the Apex bars if some of the instruments have locating tabs on them?
|
i went taboo on the tabs and filed them off. everything fits tight and does not turn. exept for the left light switch and a few layers of elec. tape fixed that. i did that because i want to retain the adjustablity that i paid for.
other than than i love the bars i slam my thumb tween the tank and bars on both sides when i forget its so close. but only doing that in the drive way or parking lots so not a big deal. I have 400 miles with them and 400 w/ stockers the apex way better and next weekend im doing a 2-3k ride so will let you know how they work. |
