Hawk Hater
This is a call to my fellow superhawk riders to prove a BMW rider wrong. I personally adore my superhawk and I am tired of defending it in conversations with my BMW friend. Our last conversation was about high mileage; he said that I couldn't find 20 hondas with over 60 thousand miles ( I have a 1979 cb650 as well). I mentioned that I had seen atleast that many superhawks with high miles. He called me a liar and here we are. I showed him a thread on here tittled "how many miles on your hawk", even after this brillant thread he said that most of the hawk riders were kicking tires and telling lies. After I found 20 superhawks I proceeded to VFR WORLD and found another 20. Will my fellow hwk riders and Honda lovers help me out here, I would love to see pics of high mileage. Oh yeah, he actually test rode and taled me into buying the Hawk, so deep down I know he loves it.

I'm trying to care, but I really don't. Mine has over 56,000 miles. There are better bikes. Whoop-dee-doo. This thing is big fun on a twisty road. I love mine.
|
I wouldn't waste your time with it. what's the difference. mostly I think he's right - its much more common to find used hondas/yam/suz/kawi with 15-20K miles regardless of year than it is to see older bmw's which commonly have very high mileage. but the bikes are different uses too so that isn't unexpected. compare goldwings or ST1100s and it would be similar. just tell him its quality not quantity that matters and if he wants to drone on riding the freeways for fun more power to him. I think this will change with the newer bmw's coming out and attracting more sportbike riders.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME - it's like fighting Obongo lovers..................
Most BMW owners are Liberal dick heads, they only get that high mileage because they can't afford anything else beyond their HIGH maintenance 2 wheeled LUV machines every 10 years. |
58,000 here, still running strong. There was one for sale on CL last year with 150,000.
It is true that BMWs do last a long time, but so do Hondas. Especially if you start looking at Goldwings, some of those have more miles than a whole herd of BMWs. lol |
My friends do not call me a liar; one because I do not lie and two because we would not be friends then.
Most of the BMW ridres I know are anything but liberal: I see them as conserative but then I see most people as conserative. |
62,000 and it will whip the living shit out of any BMW on the track, or in a straight line.
|
just tell him that BMW doesn't make any bikes that weigh less than 3 metric tons. exageration, sure but you get the idea. aside from the new superbike and the K1200 series, they are just hightech paperweights on the road. can't hang with a hawk, anywhere. but at least they've got heated grips right?
|
Ride your ride, and he can ride his. Arguing about opinions ends up in a viscous circle.

i think im at about 68000 ill send a pic later tonight or tomorrow...stuff it in his face
|
oh yeah... Fact is ...............you cant find 20 people with BMW's period...
|
lol any bike will go forever if its well enough maintained who cares really
|
Its not about the miles...its about who can ride the longest wheelie!
|
the problem isn't your friends bias towards BMW its the fact he called you a liar. I'm biased towards honda's but I don't call my friends liar when I don't believe them .

here in dublin i worked as a dispatch rider for years , anybody with any experiance rides hondas , there are loads and loads of hondas around with hundreds of thousands of miles (the home market (japanese ) 400 bros , the same as the hawk 650 are ridiculous they just go and go and go ...........
i worked a 650 hawk for three years all day 5 days a week in all weathers (and abused it :p ) i have never even done the valve clearences  it broke down once from a broken wire , and i had to replace maybe 4 regs and 4 batteries other than that nothing except consumables (touring tyres hd drive chain sprockets brakes every three months ) dont do that job any more (had a smash on a cbr) but that bike hasent been started for weeks i turned the key on last saturday and its running like a swiss watch from stone cold . bmws are mostly rubbish imo the engine wont wear out (even tho the motors (twins burn huge amounts of oil even in this day and age!!!! ) but they have several other issues depending on model , |

The guy would have to be saying that to wind you up - surely. If he is serious there is no point arguing/debating it with him, you will not win even with the best logic.
Two things I live by: You can't help stupid people, they have chosen to be that way and will never listen to you best intentioned advice or thoughts. Opinions are like armpits, everybody has them and they all stink at some time. |
I'm sure BMW's are quite nice, aside from the quirky switchgear and stuff. They just haven't made one that I want yet.

Maybe just switch bikes for a day and enjoy the ride! I don't have allegiance to any brand. It takes two to argue about it... And it's really pointless to make a blanket argument across all years and models from one mfr. |

They shake worse than a ducati, and they weigh more than the anchor on the GD queen mary II. And I have YET to be passed by one. Im sure theres a fast rider and a BMW out there that can hang no doubt, but how about cost effectiveness ? LOL It takes a $25,000 BMW to match a superhawks take-off, and it will never corner worth a crap. Those opposed cylinders have a tendency to scrape the street at 45 degrees. not good a very good track configuration. ( goldwing road racing anyone ? ) What you do get with a beemer is german engineering. And german materials. Two of the best items in the world. Plus... you get to pay for the higher quality metals and such... so rewarding to know how much extra you pay to ride a good bike isnt it? At least theres an alternate choice, if you want that stuff. |
