It happened.
I dropped bike in grass.
Truly sucks, but could have been worse I guess. Get well soon.
at least nothing was broken time to sit back and take it easy for a bit
I'm glad everything worked out as well as it did. But I have to ask, what kind of shoes were you wearing at the time?
Some flimsy ass Addidas running shoes. I know. Looking for some over the ankle boots on the net right now.
Glad you are okay, did the driver of the car stop, or keep going?
Better to have taken the way you did than become a hood ornament. |
Nope driver didnt stop.
Sorry to hear you went down. Good luck going #2 with two sprained ankles. ;)

Glad you came out ok. Smart move on getting the boots. I always wear them on weekend rides... but I'm a slacker when it comes to commuting in them. (Need to get something easy-on/easy-off that I can wear to work.) |
I almost had a similar accident last fall. I was entering a "20mph" (Meaning I was probably goin more like 30-35) left hand corner on a state park road, heavily wooded. Started wide right, initiated my turn, just as I was about to hit the apex this white commercial pickup comes barreling around the corner tires screeching. He wasn't just running wide in the corner, he had ~50% of the truck in my lane. Luckily I was still goin slow enough to be able to pop the bike upright, recover, and run wide. Needless to say it scared the Sh*t outa me. I had to pull over and regain my nerves.
Glad to hear you're ok. Reading your post brought back bad memories. |

I went down on the hawk yesterday. Low-sided in the grass in a corner. All I remember was entering the corner and seeing a car coming in the oppisite direction coming over the double lines. I got over a little and I remember seeing the shoulder and the next thing I was getting up off the ground. My wife and cousin were behind me on their bikes and saw me go off the side of the road. The say I flipped several times but I dont remember it. I was about nine feet from the bike. I got up and picked the bike up and fired her up and rode her 12 miles home. On the way home I noticed both ankles hurting a bit. By the time I got home my left ankle was softball size and my right just hurting. I went and got checked out and no broken bones just sprained both my ankles {really bad on left}, throttle wrist sore, cut on right leg and a stiff neck. I cant put any weight on either of my ankles so I have to craw to the bathroom and back to bed. The bike is OK. Left fairing cracked around the top screw beside the gas tank and the left exhaust is bent towards the back wheel a bit. It seemed to ride OK coming home though so I dont think anything is bent. Sitting here thinking about it i think I target fixated on the shoulder of the road.
Dude, First off... glad you're OK. Second, Check you exhaust clearance on inside next to swing arm when weight is on the seat... it probably hits and will wear a grove in the arm.. pull it out.. (happened to me) Third, take care of those ankles. They WILL take a while to heal, even after they quit hurting... My accident was in Oct of '06.. I didnt let them rest, and they have just recently quit bothering me. I did the same thing.. wimpy shoes, short ride... |
Glad you're ok, get well soon.

I did the same thing. 3 days after I bought it, I was coming through a left hand sweeper, and I target fixated on the edge of the road. onto the the grass I went. bike lowsided on the left. all I got was a cut on the chin. the bike was smashed cosmetically, but miraculously the forks weren't bent, and when we got it to my friend's garage it still fired right up. it took 4 months of scrounging ebay to fix it. next time, look away from the edge, look through the turn, tip it in a little more and easy on the gas. (that's what I should have done anyway)

Wow man, sorry to hear that, I just recently went down too so I feel your pain. Hope you have a speedy recovery. Stay off them feet.
As long as you are ok. Sorry to hear about the accident. it will be fixed soon. Get some boots and get back on it.
Sorry to hear, but it's one under your belt right? what kind of gear where you wearing and what speed did your riding partners say you went down at?
Glad to hear you're okay. Definitely go easy on those ankles. And when you get your bike back together, take off the peg feelers if you haven't already. I'm lucky that I decided to take them off last week. I was riding through a quick turn today and rubbed my toe on the ground (that was even with the balls of my feet still on the peg rubber). You don't want to decide to make a tough turn, only to find out your feelers dig in and throw you off... cuz I mighta been toast if my feeler hit today. You might not have had the luxury of being able to make it through that turn, but if you had, the feelers could've screwed you out of saving yourself. Again, though, glad you're okay.. stupid cager..
