FZ1 dyno sheet

Has anyone had a look at the dyno sheet for the new FZ1 (believe it was in the latest Motorcyclist magazine). The engine produces 133 rwhp and 68.2 ft-lbs of torque. While the curve itself is surprisingly flat, I find the peak value to be low for such a "high-tech" engine. Of course, I was very pleased at the fact that my old twin makes (or made for it is surely a bit higher now) 68.8 ft-lbs.

I have to wonder what is going on in Yamaha's engine dept. these days. They have long been my No.1 brand (this is my second Honda, compared to five trouble-free Yams) but they seem to be belting out low torque high rpm engines of late (have a look at the R1 dyno versus the comp). Anyhow, I find it disappointing.

Again though, as this is a VTR forum after all, my twin beats it in torque production...woohoo!

fz1 shouldn't have the massive peak number that the r1 has. is probably designed to have great torque across the power band since it's a cruiser. I just don't like yamaha for other reasons

Hi No09, totally agree with you there and in terms of a flat torque curve they have generally succeeded. My main point was that if you look at the latest Yam engines, especially the R1, they are seriously down on torque compared to their competition (compare the R1 to the GSX-R/CBR 1000's and ZX-10 adn the R1 is seriously deficient). I just don't get it.

Oh well, as one who was looking at the FZ1 with a bit of envy, what I saw sure made the old VTR seem a lot nicer all of a sudden :)

It has something to do with their engine bore/stroke, doesn't it?
