any suggestion on your favorite oil and why?

The oil I use because I use it.

Mobil 1 4T Racing Oil. IMHO the bike shifts better with this oil and so did my previous bike, 2003 Kawasaki Z1000

Finally, someone who gets it...

I prefer Motul 7100 as my SH shifts better, goes faster, revs quicker, gets better fuel mileage, plus I got a cool key fob! Now... the best tires are ……….

It's your engine. I can understand asking others who've owned the bikes longer, but if you're not already aware oil and tire threads (and can I use WD40 to lube my chain?) are some of THE most made fun of threads on any vehicular forums. For me personally they rank up there with when someone asks me "what does that exhaust sound like?" or "how loud is it/is it too loud?"

Whenever in doubt about any of this stuff go with what the manufacturer recommends. Otherwise use the search function (this is being said in a kind, trying to be helpful tone, not a condescending one btw) as this has probably been beaten to death over the years and you'll find WAY more information and opinions (which much like many other subjects are like assholes-everyone has one) to peruse over than you'll EVER get by asking the same question one more time. It's already been asked a hundred times, and probably during times when this forum was even a bit more active than it is now. You'll get a lot more info/opinions much quicker that way.

My 1.5 cents, I always went with a Honda filter and semi-syn Honda 10w-40. Last time out I didn't feel like spending the money and driving 45 minutes to get it so I went with a Mobil-1 filter and Rotella (I used the search function) as plenty of guys with a ton of miles have been doing just fine with.

Right now I have Rotella T6 in mine with 2k miles maybe without issue. Im going to try out the Mobil 1 next time to see if I see or "feel" a difference other than in my wallet.

Off label use criticism without testing to support against it is short sighted.

T6, yes It was not designed for motorcycles, but its hard to argue with the millions of miles it has worked very well for tens of thousands of users for many years.

T6 is in 93 motorcycles I use, service, track and repair as needed. I've seen the inside of a lot of those motors over the years I've been running the fleet maintenance program...Never seen an issue caused by the oil. I've been in many other motors over the years where owners ran t6 ......and could not see or measure any unusual wear pointing at an oil issue.

My VTR gets a full synthetic Ester based oil, Silkolene Pro.. Why? I get it almost as cheap as T6, It stands up to heat better and I feel I can tell the difference in shifting feel between 1000 mile T6 (so almost new) and and 3000 mile Silkolene Pro (ready to be changed). New oil to new oil I don't feel a difference but after some use, the T6 seems to be notchery ...and blackstone testing shows it has sheared more than like samples of Silkolene Pro. So there is some support for its non use in the VTR in the specific way and places I use my VTR.

So for my bike, in how I use it,,,,, T6 is not the better I think.... but not everyone lives in a riding area with temp extremes, rides as I do, has the same transmission and gear shifting mods as I do.

Off label use of all kinds of things is prolific.....and commonly recommended by users ....because it works... original manufacture intent, Marketing, and grumpy men in internet forums aside :p If it works how can it be so wrong?

If folks really want to learn what real data points are with use of T6 ...go check out bobs the oil guy site where you will find actual test results, not just feelings or label readings.

In the V I've run:

The mystery oil that was in it when I bought it
Shell Rotella T5
Mobil 1
Castrol Edge

I forget why now but there was some ghost in the machine only present with the other oils, so I've stuck with the Edge. Good shifting, cool running and quick warm up and low consumption...that reminds me to check my oil.

A few notes on oil:

Just cus it looks good don't mean it is
Just cus it looks bad don't mean it is.
Just cus the label says so don't mean it is.
Just cus the internet says so don't mean it aint.

You can send a sample fairly cheap to a company for oil analysis and it is one of two ways you should base your commentary; factual analysis or seat of pants anecdote. Either way one should preface opinions on one or the other.

In many engines I've run ATF as motor oil with no ill issues at all for extended periods of time.
Diesel oil is not a mystery chem that will harm your bike, it's damned good oil.
As long as there is not an energy conserving or a friction modifier, car oil works fine too on a wet clutch.
Look for the JASO/MA on the the back of the bottle, not the picture on the front.

I've sent them dozens of samples for many machines over the years. Eye balling oil just doesn't cut it. For the most part the oil thing is way to over done.. too many sissy mary's and too many professors weighing in on a topic we all know to be basically meaningless. My last dearly departed motor vehicle was sold with 275k on the clock and that motor ran for a solid 50 on atf. The other miles I put on it were a mix of whatever (literally) was on the shelf. And I mean literally, power steering, atf, 20w, 30w, 40w, used oil from a bulk drain bucket that had some old anti freeze in it too. Honda called for 5w30 and I think I might have used that once, on accident, and I'm sure I got it for free from a shed clean out. And that was averaging 10k in between changes, filter every other at 20k. Still runs, still drives, happy as a clam and the new owner is thrilled with a $500 car that still goes.

I'm partial to using oil, changing it routinely and checking the level.
