Ever changed low mounts to high mounts?

Recently picked up my 2nd 'Hawk. This one has low mounted, chrome Two Brothers pipes. I miss the high mount, black Jardines from my first 'Hawk. I suppose I could wait around and try to snag a used set of Jardines... Or powdercoat my low Two Bros and see if the low appearance doesn't bug me as much in black...

OR sack up and take off on this journey of modification. I'd have to modify the stock passenger pegs, make or find mounts for the new position and source a set of mid-pipes or have them made.

Anyone done this?

Ha, ha. You're already on your way.

If you get some higher mount brackets and rotate your link pipes you can get the low mounts a lot higher. Not as high as Stainies, Jardines and the like, but better looking than the standard height IMO.

The brackets came from the U.K and the pipes are from Oz !

Like Kenmoore said, you can rotate your existing standard mount pipes up higher with higher mount hanger brackets, TBR's have a tab that mounts the midpipe to the mounting point in the rearsets you'll have to deal with or even simply remove. You don't get the same midpipe bend you'd get with high mount midpipes obviously, but instead the "low to high" look an RC51. Otherwise you'll need to source a pair of TBR high mount midpipes and hangers used, as they're no longer made new.

As for your passenger pegs, you don't necessarily need to modify them, just get a set of longer bolts and spacers, as are supplied with many high mount sets of slip ons, to space the pegs out past the mufflers.

Oh and I've never seen chrome TBR's unless the P.O. plated them. The midpipes are polished stainless and the mufflers are polished aluminum.

Thanks for the suggestions, all! Of course you're correct, Capt. These cans are polished stainless. I'm not into bling and I'll probably powdercoat them black at some point, but til then, I've rubbed them down with scotchbrite pads and wd40. It produced a nice, even brushed metal look that I like much more than the mirrored finish. I tried polishing the tips to get all the corrosion off, and while I'm sure that somewhere in the world, there's enough elbow grease to get the job done, I don't have access to it... plus... I remembered I don't like shiny that much. So I took them to work and put 'em in the media blaster. No shine, just an even, corrosion free look of cast metal. I'll hit 'em with a high-temp satin clear to help protect them.

The search for proper high mount brackets continues. I'm starting to think I'll need to make something.

I know it's kinda old, but parts are really tough to find for this bike. Or is that just me?

It's not you, most of this stuff hasn't been made for a long time, so it only shows up here and there used...so you have to hoard it like the rest of us ;)

And when it does, it ain't always cheap...

Makes the $3k Moriwaki full system that was on here last year look cheap...
