Engine shipping question/help
Anyone on here ever ship an engine? Specifically a Superhawk engine or one that's at least as heavy? (If you've shipped a dirtbike engine that weighs half of what a Superhawk engine does that won't help unfortunately). The engine weighs right at @150 lbs. Thought I could do it through greyhound but they max. at 100lbs. FedEx or FedEx freight sets a "soft max" or whatever you want to call it at 150lbs. So 150 lbs. Florida to Washington state for instance would be around $200. Once it weighs 151 lbs. the price immediately jumps to $1300-$1400... Any ideas? I know it's possible as all the Superhawk engines on a place like Ebay are all "flat rate freight" right around or just under $200. I've parted out multiple bikes over the years but they always had blown engines so I never had to ship one. Thanks in advance for anyone's experience/help.

Presumably, they aren't shipping with FedEx or FedEx is taking the shipper's word on the weight.
I'd lookup a local freight company(s) to see what they can do and for how much. FedEx's bread'n'butter must be smaller packages. |

For trucking / freight companies it all about the shipping class and declared values
Google shipping used auto parts. |

Beau,
BTW, please keep holding the gauges for me. I've used a couple of brokers who quote you pretty honestly and it's worked out OK. It has to be drained of all fluids but keep the filter on. It is easiest to wrap it in an old sheet and lay it on its side on some foam rubber, then strap it down with cheap ratcheting tie-downs. I'll try to find who I used last but I think it may have been Freight Center and cost less than $200 from FL. https://www.freightcenter.com/camp/e...4aAkBbEALw_wcB These guys look interesting but know experience with them. No problem Bret, they're ready when you are. I'll check those out, thank you. Thanks everyone, much appreciated... I'll keep digging. FedEx "economy" freight is like $1,400 lol. Not very "economy" considering I can ship the whole damned bike for $500-$600... The attitude was free of charge as well...

Ive shipped big 500cc street motors. I can say that you should build a pallet box around it since my last one arrived in a big Tupperware bin and was broken. Obviously dropped on concrete from high up. Guess that's their way of getting you to not ship with them again.
