Engine Cut out

G'Day All from Aus
Hy I am a new member to forum and was wondering if anyone else has experienced their bike cutting out when coming to a stop for no unknown reason. I have had this happen a few times the bike engine appears to just clunk to a stop when I have pulled up at the lights. It generally will start straight away and then Ok until it for no apparent reason will do it again. I had this happen recently and had to jump start the bike, so replaced battery and it is still doing it occassionaly. Any clues form you wizards.Apart from that love my bike having just back into after 12 years away racing old touring cars. Cheers Mike

If the battery was dead after one of the times, I would venture to say the R/R (regulator/rectifier) has gone bad.
Do a search and you will see this is a common issue with the Hawk.

Lots of info on this. Search "clunk" on the forum and you'll see.

Generally speaking, the cause is from carb adjustments being not quite right. Idle mixture screws need to be at least 2 turns out based on your setup. You'll find stock settings between .75 and 1.5 turns. Also, carb sync needs to be spot on.

And don't forget to balance those carbs. Biggest throats I've ever seen on a normally aspirated bike, makes 'em very sensitive to low rpm modulation. One or two ticks out of balance and at idle it'll stumble, cough and die.
