DANMOTO REARSETS
 

My wife has an issue with the 1-2 shift on her Superhawk and I'm installing a Factory full shift kit this weekend.
I also just ordered a set of Danmoto rearsets. At $140 they are very inexpensive and look fantastic.
I'm hoping with the shift kit and all of the adjustability of the rearsets that her tiny feet will have less of an issue. (When I ride it, there is no issue)
Is anyone using them?
what are your thoughts?

From what I've heard, the Danmoto rearsets don't have a brake pedal return spring.
I could be wrong and I'm sure someone will fill you in soon enough.

They're okay at best. Most users end up modifying them pretty heavily, I am myself as well this winter. There's a decent thread somewhere out there that shows many of the mods to the DanMoto's to make them a bit better. The hardware they come with is junk (cheap fix) and the black finish of mine has faded to a dark red/rust color (just annoying). I guess I could recommend them still but there is a lot of refining to do.

I put the factory shift kit on mine as well.. Super upgrade, slick shifting, definitely made a difference on my hawk.. Maybe try that first before rearsets to compare?

After many attempts to solve the problem of the rear brake master cylinder mounting bracket flexing and moving when applying the back brake I came up with this method. As I had the foot pegs where I wanted them I drilled a hole through the foot peg mounting bracket and master cylinder mounting bracket that lined up with one of the threaded holes on the swing arm mounting plate . You have to take some exact measurements when doing this as you really only get one chance to do it right.

This secured the master cylinder mounting plate and stopped it moving when applying the back brake. It also stopped the master cylinder actuator rod from binding and allowed the brake pedal to return by itself after each application.

Also be aware that the locking nuts on the gear lever rod can come loose and cause a situation where the gears can't be selected . Get the gear lever where you want it and Loctite the two nuts on so that they won't come loose.

One other thing that I did was to change the foot peg bolts to longer stronger ones as I use the pegs a lot when riding and would hate to lose one due to a flimsy cheesy cheap ass bolt breaking off.

The Dans have been on my bike for over 30,000 Klms now and I am happy with them and the way that they now operate.

The mods and fixes I did only cost a couple bucks worth of scrap aluminum and hardware so the overall cost is still less than half the competitors for adjustable rearsets...

However, the shifter mod was such a huge success that I think I'll sell my Danmotos (Silver) still wrapped in the plastic.
