Coolant - Options in Preping for Track Days
I just drained the coolant from my SH. I use the SH exclusively for track days so I'm seeking advice as to coolant choices since I'm now riding in STT intermediate.
Choice 1: I have 1/2 bottle of water wetter already on hand and that appears to be enough for the 1 gal of distilled water I'd use. I really would not have a problem with completely draining the system for WI winter. Will water wetter and distilled water do the job on the track? Choice 2: I have a readily available source of Engine Ice for about $45. If I use this it will not require any special winter prep--store and forget until April. What's my best performance option? |
I've used Redline water wetter in a few track bike's I've owned, never had any issues with them. Get's my vote.
I just make the mix as needed. I've left the stuff in for a year and never had any issues, also used it on street bikes with no problems. I'm in So-Cal so freezing is not an issue. |
check with their rules to see what brands they do or don't allow. If you already have the water wetter and they allow it, I'd stick with that.

I decided to do the water wetter and distilled water for the time being. Maybe I'll do the Engine Ice when I winterize and it'll be there for 2012 season. Thanks for the input.

Water wetter is what I have used in my race bikes for 10 yrs. All tracks allow/require it. For winter just use antifreeze to prevent rust in the system.

No big deal with either. |
