coolant leak??

pulled in today after riding jacked it up on my stands. later when my rents got home I was showing my dad the new stands and we noticed a puddle of blue fluid on the ground... coolant leak maybe? I was thinking of tearing her down tonight to disable the pair system anyways as well as cleaning the carbs. what should I look for exactly? remove the side plastics to check out the radiators?? :?:

Check the weep hole on the right case cover at the water pump... and all the hoses's.

I'm replaceing the waterpump seals as I type. In fact done,, Just need to add some coolant and oil in the morning

Re: coolant leak??

It's number 2 in this fiche:

http://www.ronayers.com/fiche/200_03...0&parent=13160

Factory manual calls for a special tool to remove it and a hydraulic press to install it! :( Me? I used a small socket extension to knock it out and a deep well socket and hammer to install. Have about 3k miles on the new seal and impeller.

The impeller looked different from the one I removed from my 98. I assume it was the original. You never hear of new owners asking about coolant drips.

Well it's two separate tools.. Press to remove the impeller, then an unspecified tool to remove the seal,, then a "special driver" to install the seal.

I build tools... so it was not a big deal to make something that worked for seal install. Pilot shaft was a bolt, center piece was a small blank I cut to fit the seal diameter. And the part that presses the seal in was a old socket of the correct diameter. I save and or buy old used sockets for tool making....lol

Never the less.. I thought he was asking about the weep hole. It is located in the right hand cover, mid way between the outer edge and the inside edge that meets the case half. On line with the center of the water pump. I do not have a pic,, but will take one and post if needed. Look at your right hand cover. put your finger in the center of the water pump. Trace a point forward till it goes around the cover,, towards the center of the motor. Your finger will go right across the weep hole. It is there simply to allow coolant to leak past the seal and escape the case,,,and not be forced into the motor, and oil supply.

The OEM coolant, circa Feb 1997, that I just drained from my SH a few days ago was.....BLUE
