Contemplating VTR replacement in the spring

After having my 98 VTR for nearly 10 years and enjoying it to it's fullest. I have grown away from her alot over the past two years. I must say that here in TN bigger is not always better. I have found that i now prefer riding my wifes tricked out SV650S or my street legal CRF450R SuperMoto than i do the VTR. The VTR is fun, don't get me wrong; however it is heavy, out of date supension, and so on compared to the other two bikes i am riding now.

When spring comes i am seriously thinking about selling my beloved VTR and picking up a KTM 990 SuperMoto or KTM 690 SuperMoto. I have ear to ear grin when i ride the SuperMoto or SV and the CRF rules on the tight back twisty roads we have here in TN.

I already have a 1 lung CRF450R Street Legal SuperMoto and i know how much fun they are. The only difference is the 450 weighs in around 220lbs at about 55HP, where as the 1 lung KTM is 339lbs at ?? HP

i am looking at getting an xr650 and motarding it. or if i can find a crf450 that would be sweet. an sv650 would be nice as well haha.

try before you buy on the 690 duke

i thought that would be it for me, but it wasn't my cup of tea.

it felt like ktm forgot the fly wheel and the torque.

superduke was fab. but still big overkill for tight stuff.

+1 on any of the 450's

I know what you're going through dude and if you want to lighten up and still get it on with 2 jugs then your pick is obvious or at least it is to me:)

Can u say MONSTER 696

that ducati is nice but for the amount it would cost i could have a sick motard and a RC lol.

Have you checked out the new Ducati Streetfighter?

155hp sick looking beast!

That ducati is pretty gnarly looking. wouldn't mind a test ride on one.

My neighbor got a 690SMC. He really likes it. He comutes everyday on it. The dude has had a turbo Gsxr and a few other scary bikes so I believe him. I haven't rode it yet but he has offered. If I get the chance this winter I'll report back.

Only thing is the Harley guys at work call it a scooter and he looks like the Progressive insurance guy with a black spray painted half helmet. I know he can afford any helmet he wants. Just kinda funny to me!

If I mostly rode twisties I'd get something light weight. I was getting smoked constantly buy a dude on a tiny dirtbike with street tires last time I was at the Gap. He had just enough power to boogie but not enough to get in trouble. You gotta be carefull with a bike like the Superhawk because she will spit you off the side of a mountain with a twist of the wrist. Bet its fun to wring the neck of a little bike.

Nice, but too much $$ for me.

Besides, i love my CRF450R StreetFighter, i would just like a 600 plus cc SuperMoto, the 990 may be where i go, but the new ones are not out till spring anyway, so time is on my side.

For now i will just do my complete engine overhaul on the CRF and wait till spring to see where job and economy are at that time.

The 990 SM looks like a very cool ride, but I don't think it is any lighter than the VTR.

The little Monster is only $8,775.00 new down here and that's retail and nobody pays retail these days:)

Yea i saw that, i really wont to stay under 300 lbs for my SuperHawk replacement.

Lighter, quicker steering, and bottom end is what i am looking more towards.

Maybe i just need to sell the VTR and buy another CRF450 just for street only and have my current on for Dirt.

The new CRF450R is now FI and weigh in at 238lbs in motox form.

Thumper;

If I wanted what it sounds what you want, I think best bang for the buck might be that Suzuki 400 SM.

Have you ever looked at the street tracker treatment a lot of guys have applied to the old Yam XS 650? I'd like to apply that treatment to an SV650.

Knock about 25 or 30 pounds off of it, pipe it and get it up to about 80 RWHP with top notch suspenders. That would be a cool bike.
