Commuter Tires....
any input? Looking at BT021 Bridgestones.
Thanks. |
Don't know about BT021s. Cycle Gear still has the now discontinued Dunlop D220s on sale; $99 for the rear and $79 for the front. That's a bunch cheaper than they sell the BT021s for. Got about 1k miles on a D220 rear. Sticks better than I expected, and better than the D204 the bike came with.

220's good in the wet? We get some rain here in Mississippi. LOL I'll avoid Avons for this reason.......long story.

Try the Pilot Roads. A couple of guys at the SHOG rally last year were running them and getting serious lean angles on the Dragon. Apparently they wear nicely too.

I just got back from the Gap area riding on a BT-021 rear and a Pilot Road front. Both tires were awesome and I had no trouble keeping an advanced pace with some good riders. I was told I was leaving "darkies" on corner exits on Cherohala and NC209! Then I rode 579 miles home and they still look fine.
I've seen bad things about the BT-021 front, though, so I wouldn't buy that until I knew better. Specifically, I saw it on the FJR-1300 forum (my brother has one), the -021 front cupped very badly at about half expected life for a sport-tour front. |
Like MotorToad, I used the BT-021 rear last year at Deal's Gap and it worked great for me. I think I had a Pilot Power on the front at the time.
Ended up getting 8k miles out of the Bridgestone, which is the best I've ever gotten on a rear on the VTR. It's dual compound, so it's sticky on the edges, but wears well down the middle. Ran D220s a couple years ago, but wasn't happy with the mileage. I've had a set of Pirelli Diablo SuperSports on since January & the rear is gone now (4k miles). Just ordered another BT-021 rear from Chaparral for $127 shipped. |
Have you looked into the Metz Z6?

shinko 005 advance tires. hands down kick ass
|
I have a 1K on my Pilot Roads... still look unused for the most part, even down the middle... probably a good compromise if your commuting a large percent of the time.

Just fitted a Pilot Road "2" on the front. I have been running a Pilot Road "2" on the rear for 5K and expect to get another 5K out of it.
So far I love them....... |
I am trying the Dunlop Roadsmart because the qualifier is melting away wayyyy too fast.
|
