Clutch Slipage oe Air in Line

while driving bike rides fine but when i go to full throttle it the rpm shoot up to about 8k and stop the bike then slowly accelerates. if i back off and slowly roll on the throttle the bike accelerates like normal. is this the sign of a slipping clutch? i recently did an oil change after i got the bike and used Valvoline 4-stroke oil. any suggestions i should look at or do?

Yup, that is a slipping clutch. Air in the clutch line would make it such that the clutch doesn't fully disengage when you pull in the clutch lever.

If you didn't have it before the oil change and it suddenly started, it might be the oil you used. But if it's doing this normally, just buy a clutch rebuild kit

Any recommendation on a clutch kit I should get. I have 18k on my bike.

First try flushing & using semi-synthetic oil if you filled it with fully synthetic...

I just had this issue on a VFR after an oil change. I believe it was a combination of a clutch save issue, holding the clutch open slightly and a dirty and disused clutch. The bike in question had been sitting unused for two years, Try bleeding the clutch a bit and make sure not to over fill fluid in the reservoir before you get into the clutch. If this doesn't work inspect your clutch plates. I took the glaze off the steel plates by rubbing them of the shop floor. It is a brutal clutch now.

It was not the oil change that did it I am sure of that.

Slipping Clutch

One more note. If you are successful bleeding and then you find the clutch slips after 30-50 uses, it is likely the little tiny hole under the reservoir is plugged. There are two ports under the reservoir and one is very small, not much bigger than a few strands of hair. It's the first thing to plug if old fluid has been allowed to sit in the clutch master. When it gets plugged it gives the symptom of a slipping clutch.

The "port" on the left in the recess, the one with the tiny orifice at the bottom, is what Peeb is referring to.

if there is air in your clutch hydraulic fluid you will find it difficult to find neutral
