Cheated another storm

Love mobile radar! Wanted to take a country cruise this eve and here comes a storm. Rode right up to it and did a 180. Saw all kinds of wildlife, cattle and horses, enjoyed some twisty hilly roads through pastures and forrests, watched the sunset and got over an hour in on the bike. Felt a drop or two as I was pulling in. It is beautiful here!

Had an awesome ride with my son today on highway 13 in tn as well. Only about 80 miles but nice none the less. Lots of twistys.

Sure are some nice rides here in TN. My problem is that since I live in a very rural part of TN most of the roads are beat to death. Potholes and busted up pavement that ends up turning to gravel roads. I've ridden on gravel roads on a sportbike a bunch and even ended up on some dirt roads and made it but I don't really enjoy it. I need to get out and ride a little further out of town more and get on some more developed highway.

Oh and nothing like beating a storm. I was riding a few weeks ago and saw the meanest darkest storm cloud in a while.. stretched all the way across the sky so there was no avoiding it except turning around. Really cool feeling in a way, getting up close and feeling the temperature drop and the air pressure change then turning around and hauling ass out of there. Don't normally do that on purpose though, I'm not some kind of storm chaser.

I'd like to but need to plan at least a few days ahead with work and a kid to worry about. Not saying I'd need to plan a month in advance and make it into some big ordeal but I can't just jump on my bike and take off a few hours after I get a call.

Super Hawk Pro Jul 21, 2013 01:04 PM

Same here. 2 kids and 7 day work weeks

jerryh Jul 21, 2013 04:56 PM

Caffeine and some other guys and I are meeting up this coming week in NC. Both of you seem really really ridiculously ill and should blow off work 1 day this week.

Super Hawk Pro Jul 22, 2013 07:11 AM

Wish I was closer than 6 hrs from nc

Do you guys have any plans set already? I am really wanting to go riding this weekend and have even been playing with the idea of taking off work early Friday (or missing completely) and getting a hotel room in Pigeon Forge for my wife and kid to stay in and shop while I go riding. Not sure if this is going to work out especially since I kinda decided last minute.

Super Hawk Pro Jul 23, 2013 11:25 PM

421 "The Snake", from Bristol, TN to Mountain City.
IMHO its the best ride in east TN. The Dragon sucks compared to it.
Theres not a cop sitting every ¼ mile!!!!

I've never heard of 421, was just looking it up on Google Maps, looks pretty awesome. I haven't been to the Dragon in a few years but yeah after seeing it on the news all summer, every summer, I figured cops would be parked on every corner. When I went about 5 years ago it wasn't too bad but I've heard its pretty bad now. How long is that ride from Bristol to Mountain City?

Munk Jul 24, 2013 04:41 PM

The ride from Bristol to Mtn. City is around 15 miles, but HWY 91 and 133 split off of 421 in Shady Valley. You can cross 3 mountains and enjoy 489 curves all before lunch!
Would love to ride with some fellow Hawkers.

I was just checking it out on Google Maps and it looks like some awesome riding. Too bad Bristol is about 2.5 hours from me. BUT my wife was talking about wanting to go to Pigeon Forge sometime and it's not too far from there so maybe it'd work out that way and we could ride.

jerryh Jul 25, 2013 08:14 PM

I'm down for bristol sat
