if i buy a chain with the clip link can i just buy a rivet link seperatly?so i dont have to use the clip

Yes, they are available separately by most all chain manufacturers. Just be sure to get a rivet link for the exact same model chain.

Some manufacturers have a self-riveting master link that is pretty cool. No special tool needed to flare the ends, just turn two nuts until they snap off and proper tension is set.

i would go to a moto dealer and just bring in the chain or chain spec (ie votex 520, DID 530 etc) so you get the right master link. Its easy with the chain break tool and stronger than a clip, will run you only $3-$6.
