CBR929 Braced Swingarm
 

I am interested in conversion to 929 braced swingarm.... I have three pics I copied from here for someones SH with the conversion, but I haven't been able to find any other info using the forum search. Anyone got any ideas who did the conversion or have any info about it?

I would love to know how this works too. I have a spare swing-arm, shock and linkage from an 01 929.

Please post up any info!

Yes, me too please! I've also got a 929 swingarm that I want to install on my VTR. I don't mind a little fab work, it would just be nice to know what this guy did so that I can get a head start.

That's a bike from Italy, the owners not a member. Not sure if it's a bolt on, (I doubt it though) and it's also a lot longer than the superhawk swingarm. :cry: But it does look good, I'm in the process of taking a brace off a 900rr swingarm to weld to my SH swing.

Yeah, the 929 swingarm is ~50mm longer than the VTR's. I still haven't decided what I'm going to do about that. I certainly don't want a longer wheelbase. A little bit probably won't hurt, but I don't want the whole 50mm.

Yeah, 50mm is a lot maybe you could have a fab guy cut and weld it?

I probably won't do it then. It was just so convenient because I already have all the pieces.

If anyone wants I'll sell them a genuine 929 rear suspension conversion kit! Just kidding.

According to Windows calculator 50mm is equal to somewhere between 2.05 and 2.1 inches... I got an email out to Graves Motorsports and Moto Carrera about fabbing a brace onto a stock swingarm.... Will update when I get reply from them....

I saw a beefed up aftermarket VTR swingarm on this or another forum.
Came from Germany or something.
Was polished with an eleptical(sp?) axle adjuster.
I can't find the link right now but will keep looking & post here if I find it.

Seems like Moriwaki Racing had one too but BIg Valley Honda is upgrading their website & my old links to the VTR racing page don't work.:(

I've put those pics on the forum.
I don't know the guy who does this work, I've only found them on the web.
I guess that adding 50 mm (2' if you prefer) to wheelbase, would decrease handling dramatically. It's a nice work to see, but I think that it don't worth.
Probably an RC51 swingarm could work, even if it is not born for a pivoteless frame.

Another thing to consider is rear pipe routing.

I doubt the 929 arm has a large enough hole for both the rear cylinder exhaust pipe along with the shock as the vtr is one of the very few to utilize this design. It appears that bike in the pic couldn't use a left side exit (or maybe he didn't want too?) so he routed everything to the right or centerup.

For the same reasons, the VTR also uses an off-center linkage unlike the 929. So that's another thing to consider.

Personally, I'd weld a 929 upper brace to the VTR swingarm and call it a day.

I liked the idea of utilizing the shock and linkage from the 929. I don't think I'd ever be in a position to benefit from the swingarm brace alone.
