Bug Splatter
 

Ever since I meshed up my headlight the bugs that splatter get chopped up as if a Japanese chef has sliced and diced them .

I went for a 300 Klms ride out in the country on Friday and as it is spring here there were bugs everywhere.

Now those bugs are splattered all over my bike from front to rear.

Before I meshed my headlight there were bugs, but not like this.

Pain in the backside to clean them up.

Hook the screen up to your ignition coils and zap em all, no muss no fuss.

I know a new modification for ya! Install one of those Mercedes headlight washers, so you can spray the bugs while they're still gooey and wet. You'll have to duck behind the windshield when you spray the headlight, but it's a small price to pay. :)

The latest thought running through my head is a reverse camera with a 3.5" TFT screen that allows me to see what is going on behind me!

Like the look of my bar end mirrors but they are all but useless at high speeds.

Combining Pidge and Mats mods would work best. Probably cook/wash the bugs off you as well. We're gonna need video

Maybe the mesh disturbs airflow (bugflow?) around the rest of the bike.

I suggest perhaps a local university has a wind tunnel you could use to study and then restore laminar bugflow....;)

I have racked my brain and can't think of a good reason why you would put mesh over your headlight(?).

The only thing it can do is lessen effectiveness of the headlight which is very undesireable and downright unsafe.

The only vehicles that even have those are bushwacker jeeps. Why would you want that look on a sportbike? At least thats what I am wondering.

So he can kill more bug! Duh. Pay attention.

That's really an unnecessary and dangerous solution to something as simple as what I run above

Skokie, isnt that also putting dark tint over a light thats supposed to brighten the road at night?

So much effort is put to getting brighter headlights, I just dont see covering them with something.

And since when is broken headlights a common problem anywhere but the baja 500?

Oh, and they make clear film that does it too, just in case you live in a high flying rock area. No dimming required.

There were three reasons why I did it.

1-Because I could!

2- because I wanted to see what it looked like, and I now like the look because it's different!

3- here in Oz our roads in the country have large chips of blue metal in them and I have broken more than one headlight by having rocks thrown up and smashing the lens.

I like to be different and many people have asked about the mesh but I do admit it is a pain in the ass but I don't mind because I am anal with my Storm.

It gets twice the attention of the other bikes in the Cave and always will.

Yeah the Denver are is bad for flying pea gravel. Its used in the winter and gets kicked up every so often

Ignore the link photo of the twin lens sample bike, the VTR SH light-guard is crystal clear PC that is highly resistant to flying rocks and from coincidentally I believe NZ. It attaches easily and removes just as easily but in 10 years has never come loose...

3a) You had many streetbike lenses broken? I am not immediately buying this one but who knows whats going on down under.

4) I still maintain that clear plastic film is smarter, and

5) If you are thunderdome enuff to put a collendar on your headlight you better toughen up and not come crying on here that you muckered it up. Its all part of being the zanyest guy on the diggerydoo.

Perhaps kenmoore's mesh is acting as a modifier to collimate his headlight beam; therefore, his beam intensity may not follow the inverse square law for illumination intensity fall-off allowing his headlight to outshine stock.

Of course, I don't feel I have to take the bug salad into account because kenmoore is anal.

I think kenmoore should just put one of skokie's shields over his meshed headlight and then everyone will be happy.

Ok skokie, that makes more sense. Something to add protection but not turn you into a total squid. Cant tell you how many punks around here have the whole car blacked out and then become invisible at night.

Well, as spring is now over I have arrived at the conclusion that bug salad is a seasonal dish!

As far as the mesh goes the light on the Storm is shithouse anyway so the mesh doesn't really impinge on the light.

To those of you who disagree with it too bad.

There is a queue very far away that you can join, it's called the far queue! The bug splat mesh stays.

After all it only works for two months of the year!
