Blank canvas

Ok, here's a thread that may be a little different. I have posted some pics of my bike that is currently in the shop for paint. My question is this... Being a VTR owner, what would be your number one modification? This can be either cosmetic or performance related. I'm looking for ideas on what to do next and I'm hoping for some interesting replies.

Thanks in advance guys.

My first thing would be cans. My Jardine high mounts make the Hawk sound amazing. Second would be a lower fairing, have mine just waiting for paint.

Hi mate,

maybe not what your wanting to hear ,..but the best modification you could make is one you CANT see....modify your standard cct's if you've still got them fitted... 3rd post from the top of page .

http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewto...=3179&start=90

Or fit manual cct's

Failing that .....Belly-pan,....or Lower Fairing....Bar Conversion..??

OR porcelain coat the cans AND headers to match your paint...FYI porcelain can only be done in black, grey, metallic, chrome and white.

As I understand it porcelain coating will also help transfer heat out the cans instead of radiating out from the headers.

Good luck

Devon, England? Mate, go with black under clear with thick and thin gold pin-striping then with clear over it again. "John Player Special". Got to have gold powder coated wheels.

Sure, I'm a sucker for the good old days, but then the last two decades haven't produced much in the way of classic stylin', excepting some Italian stuff.

Decent CCT's are top of the list. Got the lower fairing and it does make a world of difference. I'm not a fan of high level cans, I was thinking of a single under seat conversion or sticking with what I have??? (Scorpions with no baffles)! As for the John Player colours, if only I had asked this question sooner! Thanks guys, keep em coming!

SlowHAWK is an unknown quantity at this point
Best mod would be to paint it red... that adds like 30 HP!!!! LOL!!!

There probably isn't just 1 mod that is "the Best".... all depends on what your looking to do with your bike... Exhaust, Forks Springs, Manual CCT's, Rear Shock, Sargent/Corbin seat... all worthy options... my suggestion is to do them all!!!

I totally agree with SlowHawk, There isn't one single mod that's the best but it's nice to see what other owners class as the most important things to do. I'm not sure where I want to go with my yet bike but I'm like SlowHawk's idea of doing them all. This could get very messy, if not a little expensive! My next question would be what is the most extreme mod you can think of? (Realistic to do, Warp Drive or a Flux Capacitor probably won't happen)!

The most extreme mod that I could think of would be to make it into a supercharged single like the Ducati V1.

by far the top two performance mods are front and rear suspension. necessary and noticeable on every and any type of ride.
cosmetics - the list is endless and depends on your available $ and/or mechanical skills (see the long thread by the kid from tennesee on here).

Depending on what kind of riding you do (distance or short/sporty) replacing the seat with a Seargent would be on my list.

Nothin like the un-corked sound of a big V-twin. A must for the Superhawk IMO.

Performance impovement is all about suspension and front brakes first. Long term protection of the engine includes manual CCTs before 16K. If your bike has greater than 20k this has already been done. Then you can do the pretty stuff. Hi-mounts, coated header, jet kit, k&n, prolites or waves, double bubble, helis, and you can throw away that faggy little chin fairing.

Sorry Capt!

Fix the two things with know issues on the bike. Cct's(cam chain tensioners) and the r/r(regulator rectifier) after that pipes

1a.) suspension-especially if you're a heavy bloke
1b.) Bigger FUEL TANK
1c.) CCT, R/R--not done on my bike, and I feel guilty since my friend owns it now

After the above, then a few fun ones
2.) Lower Fairing
3.) Exhaust
4.) Gearing--the top 3 are kinda tall for my liking
5.) Seat, but I got used to it quite well actually
6.) Digital Speedo
7.) Gear indicator
8.) Fuel Injection

I gotta vote for the undertail. After you do what you need to (CCT, R/R) and you take care of the exhaust, The I would suggest an undertail. It is a C note that will really update the look of your SHawk

Hmmm, I gotta say, your bike does look good with that mod.

A Peugeot 106 / Subaru Impreza metallic blue pearl mix with twin offset Daytona style stripes running nose to tail. (Put these pics on the album pages). The stripes are orange with a real copper mix so it should shine in the sunny british weather! No decals whatsoever!

If mixed means you get to see the sun for ten minutes in between the rains... than yeah... If not I'd say it's fairly uniform...

Btw, I spent a few summers in Scotland... And once the sun comes out it's beautiful...
