I'm installing my Heli Bars this weekend and I'm looking for installation advice from anyone who has installed these, as far as what kind of unexpected, quirky or P.I.T.A situations I might run into that may not be covered in the install instructions. Thanks for your help!

Pretty much straight forward. Just barely tighten the bolts until you check how the tank and upper fairing are gonna clear the bars. Turn full left/right, find what position works best, then tighten bolts. Now go for a ride and feel the difference and ask yourself why you hadn't done this before now.
For a better fit to my personal riding style, I took a file to notch the clutch banjo bolt on the master cylinder. This allowed me to position the lever exactly where I wanted it.

Joe is right. This is a pretty easy change out. Everything will have to be adjusted to the new feel and angles. The Heli's do not have locator pins like the stockers so you have the option of making the stance wider or narrower. Narrower works best for me and that's with my thumbs pinned against the tank at the stops. If you go stop to stop and your brights are turned on you are too wide. Serious coin but a serious improvement over the stockers. Good luck!

Thanks guys for your quick and helpful advice, unfortunately I've got to put off this little project till after Christmas. But I'm looking forward to it, especially after finally getting my Sargent seat. What a difference! I don't slide or creep forward and smash my family jewels on the tank anymore. Are these higher clip ons or a superbike type bar?

Heli-bars are clip-ons. Moves the grips up and back toward the rider.

It does make the riding position much better and is worth the retail price. But why pay retail if you don't have too. I bought mine used, for less. Deals come around here. You just gotta be ready to jump when it does.

MLB, that's what I thought at first and why I didn't pick up a pair earlier. I lucked out and got a great deal on a new set from ebay w/ 10% off coupon an already low price of ($209) and MS live cashback ($62). So once I get my cashback I will have paid approx. $130..not too shabby.

Re-entering biking after a 30 year reprieve. I'm very interested in these bikes for their looks, the fairing, torquey motor, but would prefer a more upright position (like the writer) than the stock bars appear to offer. Anyone able to share a photo with the heli-bars (or even a before and after)?

Why hasn't somebody copied these and offered them for half the price?
I"m not suggesting it, but that's what usually happens.

I think the answer is the VFR clipons. I'm not yet speaking from experience, but from the various postings it would seem most people say the VFR clipons are beefier and certainly cheaper used on ebay.

and the position is similar to the helibars? What about the angle? That's what I don't like the most about the stockers.

Angle on the VFR bars are a bit flatter and wider than the stock... Altough there are differencies between years... there is a thread on here discussing the various ones with a list of what years to look for... Do a search and it should come up...
