best upgrade for rear shock...

I've done various searches and can't really find what I'm looking for. I find like 1 thread that talked about swapping shocks but it was real unclear so I'm hoping to get rid of any confusion. First off I'm looking for a cheaper solution to upgrade the rear shock since I'm doing racetech upgrades on the forks.

So first option is what if any bikes can we swap a rear shock over from?

Second option would be to buy a new spring and then do I have to revalve or what? (not really sure what's required with this... I know eibach sells springs)

third option which is the most obvious is to buy a nice rear shock from one of the many companies - penske, ohlins, (name the rest I forget)...

The short answer is there really isn't an optional true bolt on OEM shock. The VTR unit is one of the longest around.

VFR and CBR1100XX are the closest in length but are still shorter. Neither are known for quality or adjustablity.

Better are the older cbr9xx series as they are decently close in spring rate (still too light for most riders) but are much shorter so you need to fab an upper spacer (mandatory).

With the battery box right behind the shock, units with remote reservoirs are easier to fit but piggybacks do work.

Besides aftermarket, you could have the stocker rebuilt/revalved specifically for you by a good shop. Costs would be inbetween the other options.

I did a bunch of research on this & decided:
Most bang for my buck in rear shock is WP "road racing" shock..

Just got one from Lindeman Engineering.

k that clears a lot up. that really stinks that we can't swap anything really... Guess I'll save up and get a racing shock like the one posted above. Not sure who I'll go with...

I bought a Bitubo off ebay and while it's no Ohlins I'm very happy with it. It can be plush on the street or stiff for the track cost is close to wp which is a good company as well. I used wp for my dirt bikes.

I had Lindemann mount up a Penske for me. About $800...ouch...works great though.
