Best Mod
Hi all
What is the best modification for the $ that you have done to your Shawk. |
Re: Best Mod
It's a toss-up for me...Heli Bars or Race Tech front springs.
Heli Bars - makes the SHawk more comfortable in every-day riding Race Tech - makes the SHawk more enjoyable in faster/canyon riding |
Re: Best Mod
1) steel braided front brake lines, and EBC HH brake pads.
2) front fork springs from racetech |
Re: Best Mod
Different sprockets, it really livens up the bike.
|
my undertail looks better than anybodys and i did it myself for free. must get digi to show pics.
|
Re: Best Mod
The TPS mod. Sharpened up the throttle response so much. Make it feel like it had another 10 Hp.
After that... Heli-bars or Corbin seat. |
Re: Best Mod
I should not even post since I have ridden mine so few miles but the Sargent seat feels much better and the Vance and Hines S4's just stirs the soul .
I've since dropped the motor out and put some more power into another core engine I bought . Modifications and dyno sheet TBA . |
Re: Best Mod
Man, I'm finding this to be a tough question as I've done quite a few mods for low bucks:
R1 mirrors ($19 used) on VTR mounts= I can see! GSXR750 R/R ($9 used)=bike charges now Lighted voltmeter ($19)=piece of mind Shim the carb needles ($2)=better low end response TPS mod ($0)=better low end response VFR clip ons ($10 used!)=higher riding position Custom lower footpegs ($30 used)=less achy knees Sigma BC800 computer ($15)=accurate speed/another tripmeter Custom fram air filter ($5)=clean, cheap air Going strictly by your question, it would be the TPS mod since it didn't cost a dime but I'd have to say for me it's the............ Gixxer r/r mod. Being a honda man and having owned several cbr/vfr's over the years, I'm, unfortunately, very familiar with the r/r problem. When my recently purhased second superhawk's r/r went tits up, I was dreading forking out big $$$ for the new "improved" honda r/r. Finding out on this site about the gixxer r/r mod was great news. Wiring it up was a piece of cake. |
Re: Best Mod
Probably just slipped my mind, but what does R/R stand for?
Thanks, Mike |
Re: Best Mod
Regulator/Rectifer.

Re: Best Mod
So far my Puig windscreen. It couldn't be better made and it has completely changed my bike. With the stock windscreen I would get battered around pretty good. Whenever I would look to the side or shoulder check, at high speeds my vision would blur slightly from my head shaking around and with my whole body shaking around, that would shake the bike. Now its all smooth sailing and I can run with confidence even up to and past 145.
and where did Superbling get his sweet @$$ belly pan? I also need those black nylon mirror extenders that I saw somewhere but forgot. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Best Mod
actually I was referring to this one:
https://www.superhawkforum.com/album....php?pic_id=40 I guess I thought you had the same one but missed the detail due to the black color. |

Re: Best Mod
Best performance mod was the exhaust, K&N and rejet. Sweet.
Best visual mod was the Pyramid lower cowling... http://www.farson.com/honda/vtrsturk.jpg |
Re: Best Mod
Geeze that lower looks good !
Are those pipes the low mount Jardines ? I don't think they make those anylonger or do they ? Those are studly too IMO . |
Re: Best Mod
What a great picture.
|
Re: Best Mod
The exhaust is Two Brothers Carbon Fiber. Kept the stock mounts. Have famileeee liking to ride with me 8).
The lower cowling is the second one I tried. I wasted $$$ buying one from Targa. The color match wasn't perfect (they said they couldn't guarantee a perfect match!?!), and the left side looked lame. Merry Christmas! |
TPS mod really sharpened up off idle response. I had to remove steel inserts in the TPS to get the ohm reading within specs(900+ from factory). A perfect replacement screw comes from a GL-1500 Gold Wing. It is the screw that holds the fairing pockets in place(phillips head with a permanatly attached washer.

Re: Best Mod
I think the best mod would be to replace the stock intake cam lobes with a grind of one or two off the Megacycle master sheet , NOT whats listed at their website . Degree it in @ 103 centerline and place the stock exhaust cam at 106-108 all the while using the stock valve springs . Makes for some explosive torque that way up around 5k rpm .
That is if you already have good exhaust and a BMC airfilter n jet kit . :P The better the head flow , the better they run cammed this way . |

Re: Best Mod
From a real-world standpoint, I would say that a beefy-sounding slip-on exhaust and a Factory Pro Stage I jet kit are almost-essential mods. Some time ago, I read an online review of the SuperHawk, and the editor (who had fallen in love with the SH) remarked that it "should be listed amongst the venial sins not to put a good set of cans and jet kit on the SuperHawk", that, for maximum effect, the "character-rich" engine of the SH needs to breathe a little. :)
Second in line, I would place the Race Tech front fork spring mod. This mod makes an incredible difference in the way the SH rides and handles. Third in line, I would place braided stainless steel rear brake lines with HH rear brake pads...Big difference in braking-performance, not that expensive to do. Fourth in line, I would place the Penske 8100 race shock, with reservoir. It's probably the costliest mod you would ever perform, but the difference it makes--like riding an entirely new, rides-on-rails motorcycle---still places it high on the "bang-for-the-buck" scale. cheers, --HotStreetVTR |
best mod for the $$$ was drop 1 tooth off the front sprocket makes it a new bike to ride/wheelie
