Am I the only one who thinks that Superchicken
is a slur?
|
They are just jealous
|
It is kind of a slur or self depreciating if you use it yourself, but is "super hawk" really much better? I always call it my VTR 'cause Super Hawk sounds dorky to me.
I don't think the Japanese are very good at naming things. Some of the best names were for WWII fighter planes. Mustang, Hellcat, Spitfire. The Japanese fighter was called the Zero, probably one of the reasons they lost the war. |

I see it like the firechicken or screaming chicken nickname that the "Smokey and the Bandit" car has.

I grew up on farms and chickens were, well, chickens. Hawks are birds of prey. |
I don't see anything wrong with it

Then I turn it around back at you: name one fighter with chicken in the name?
I just personally don't like Super Hawk very much either. I'm not sure why. |
I think they should of just called it the "Honda Hawk". The added super is like when we were kids making up superheros. I like subtle names.

I think you're right. At least they didn't call it the "Super Duper Hawk". |
Thats exactly what I was thinking when I first looked it up. I remember saying "Why SuperHawk?" It is an amazing bike for what it is, but I think they did over do the name.

Of course there is no fighter plane named after chickens... or bunny rabbits or toy poodles! And like I said, that would be a slur or self depreciating.
I just personally don't like Super Hawk very much either. I'm not sure why. Naming a big 1000cc V and linking historically with the same twin heritage makes sense to me. |

There has all ready been one 305cc superhawk in the US model line up back in the 60's which help connect the performance image to the honda name.
Naming a big 1000cc V and linking historically with the same twin lingo makes sense to me. I never call my bike Super Chicken. I just prefer VTR over Super Hawk. |

Me too. I've just never felt superchicken as a positive term in any sense of the term. The polling so far doesn't agree tho'!

People can call it what ever they want. They are just jealous that their bike or lack there of, doesnt sound as good or is as much fun as ours. Superchicken is like an owners only name for our bike.

i think firestorm is a much better name but i can see the super hawk link to the olde vtr
|
I look at it this way, and I've said it before. There are two kinds of guys who ride VTRs.
The guys who want the bike which posted the fastest ET in Motorcyclist or fastest lap time in Sport Rider, but don't have the bucks and bought a VTR 'cause it's the hotest bike they could afford. Then there are guys like me who realize the VTR is one of the best real world sporty-sport street bike ever made. Guys from the first group call it a Super Chicken. Guys like me call it the VTR. |
My name isn't Casey Stoner or Danny Pedrosa. The guys who could run away from me on a twisty road, on an R1 or GSXR1000 are the same guys who could run away from me on another VTR. Or probably on a '76 RD400!

For some reason in motorsports, birds seem to be associated with chickens. Ex. the Ford super coupe thunderbird was named the super chicken and the turbo coupe from early 80's was the turbo chicken.
The chicken is not nearly as ominous looking as what I would imagine a Thunder Bird or Super Hawk. |
Ha Ha my bike is not called Superhawk at all. It is called Firechicken...... err I think? Yes that's it, Fire...something anyway. And it's blue.
I notice on the left it says 'Squid' I don't want be 'Squid'. |
is that poo rider? or poor ider?
|
I was only asking in the case that you don't like squid or superchicken...
|
it says "idiot" too....:)
sorry, had to |
I know-ppl are messing about with my stuff. I hadn't noticed that 'idiot' thing.
|
I think that is new in the last two posts. I dont know who would have the powers to pull that off, but is surely isn't me.
|
See the old firebirds were called firechickens by the owners: http://www.motortopia.com/vehicles/v.../i/firechicken
and 90's thunderbirds thunderchickens: http://www.motortopia.com/vehicles/v...thunderchicken Just he whole bird motif leads to chicken. The way I see it, if you call your own bike that way, it is a self deprecating term of endearment.. *we know how good it is, so we can talk it down. If someone else tries to slur it, we know they just don't know what the real story is. :) |

The idiot thing is one of the mods messing with you. :P No clue which one, but I am sure it is just meant as a "pull your leg" kinda thing. This is a good group of guys.. |
