Able to tell a difference in Race Tech springs out of the fork?

My front end was pretty soft under braking so I decided on putting Race Tech springs in. .85's. Got it all apart and the thing has Race Tech's already installed. With the springs out and leaning on them against the floor they both feel about the same. The PO was pretty close to my size and weight. Any chance the previous installed springs are the same rating? I was getting brake dive on normal, easy braking. Hate to install the new springs and get the same brake dive. Any ideas?

Any decent shop that messes with roadracing or trackday guys should have a spring rate checker thingy and shouldn't charge anything to check them for you. It's really hard to tell even a .95 from a .85 without measuring IMO and I have been doing suspension service since 2003.

what was the rider sag with the old springs?

IIRC, the racetech springs come with metal tubes to make your own spacers according to your needs. Maybe the PO ran the stock ones or you need a different length.

Also, do you have your SAG set?

They are Race Tech. Had the metal spacer in and looked excatly like the RT's I purchased. The stock springs look different in that they have coils close together at the bottom of the spring and the RT's are evenly spaced throughout. I am going to go ahead and install the RT's I bought with some new fork oil and see what happens. The old springs might have had a lower spring rate. Thanks for the replies.

Yes the stockers are progressive rate with different coil spacing from top to bottom while Racetech's are straight rate and are evenly spaced. Now you're confusing me. Which ones did you pull?

The springs I pulled looked like Race Tech's, spacer and all. Leaning on them they feel like the RT .85's I bought. Going to install the new springs I purchased with some new oil and see what happens.
