95% complete HID projector (pics and video)

Figured my other thread had enough pics so I decided to start a new one since I'm about done. I have been slacking and busy with work to keep me from finishing this much earlier but that's life. All I have left to do is finish making my mirrored backplate and wire in my diode so my low beams won't cut off when I hit the high beam for bixenon functionality.

Details:
G35 bixenon (low and high beam) projector
Purple tinted Valeo clear 2.5" lens
BMW E46 shroud
Mitsu Ballast
Philips 85123 4300k bulb
relayed wire harness built

Here's the video link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFlv6_r0-0s

Here are some quick snaps...

OMG SWEET im stuck with my hawk for the next few years but the idea of this up-grade is sweet

epleeds 10-24-2008 10:12 PM

that is freaking sweet.....now, my only question is how much will it cost me to have you make one for me. Since I know I dont have your skills. I think it would complete my SSS Hawk.

skokievtr 10-24-2008 10:33 PM

whats the link to your orininal thread again???

I can't remember your other pics and desciptions.

haknslash 10-25-2008 07:48 AM

Thanks guys! I'll have more pics when I finish the backplate and install the diode.

sko, here is the original thread https://www.superhawkforum.com/forum...ad.php?t=15617

nice

Are those pisc on low-beam, if so, the reach seems short. How bout some pics on low & hi beam sitting on the bike centered?

Thanks

Reach is hardly short lol. Might be because the road or street is actually downhill making it seem short to you?

All pics were on low beam mode until I install my diode so I can have high beams. I'll take more pics then.

Projector can still be adjusted with the stock adjusters for vertical and horizontal adjustment. So you tune it to how you like ;)

nice work, would like one from mine one day

Tweety 10-30-2008 03:10 PM

Anto/hak you wouldn't have any pointers on how to seal the back end would you?
Mine is mostly done now, the house is sealed back up, and I can by twisting my fingers almost out of their joints put the bulb in, it sticks out just enough so I can't get the rubber cap on... And I would like to be able to get it of, to swap bulb atleast...

Plus where did you guys put the ballast? I have found several decidedly bad spots... And a few so, so... None really good...

I ended up having to remove my right side inner black plastic piece that forms into the "nostril" on the front fairing. I plan to buy a long extension version of the LVQ-212 and mount the ballast somewhere else out of sight.

I still have yet to install my damn diode so I still don't have high beams but its fine. Haven't been riding too much due to the weather here and my long commutes to work and back.

As for the rear rubber piece. You can buy some rubber end caps at Lowes or Home Depot. I used those on my Highlander retro. You can also trim the stock rubber cap and then silicone around any gaps if your projector allows.

Can I get some more info. on the wire relay harness you built? I'd love to do this, but I'm abit nervous about the wiring part. I've read on here somewhere that the stock wiring isn't sufficient.

It's never a good idea to run HID without a harness on ANY vehicle, bike or not.

It's pretty simple to run a relay harness.

Wire the relay as so if you're just doing a single xenon set-up:

85 = input signal (splice from low beam power signal at headlight plug)
86 = chassis ground (no more than 12" length, shorter the better for less resistance)
87 = output signal (to ballast power)
87a = not used
30 = fused 12V power (15-20A fuse per ballast)

This is the thread that enspired me to do mine. Same type of set up but using a mercedes bi-xenon.

Used a piece of carbon fibre to finish off the inside of mine and got a friend at work to make me a circuit to control the high beam solonoid. Works a treat.

haknslash 01-11-2009 11:40 AM

Looks good! Glad this inspired you to tackle this project :). You could of used a diode and your bixenon. Not sure what your friend built you but I hope it wasn't a PITA for him as a diode is all ya need ;). I'm just lazy and haven't installed the diode yet. Plenty enough light from mine that I haven't had to need one really. But I do plan on finally installing the diode just to have it set-up right.
