Im looking at a Superhawk with 30K miles... It has a lot of pretty cool options, and looks great, but the mileage is up there around 30K... What do you think? Hes asking $3900...

New Metzler Tires, New Chain & Sprockets, New Progressive Front Suspension, New Brake Pads, New Spark Plugs, GenMar Risers, Corbin Seat, High Carbon Fiber MAXX Pipes, K & N Air Filter, Customized Signal Lights, Two Wind Screens, Orginal Exhausts, 33,000 miles. |
Yeah, that is a little high....umm I mean wow what a great price, I could sell you a 99' with 8k miles, and a bunch of mods for $4000....would that make you feel better....lol
nah I am not quit ready to sell yet..... |
Its higher than average but not too high. One guy on this forum had one with 137k miles and it still ran great.
I got 31k on mine. Bought it with 25k.
No motor problems as of yet, and I hammer on it. Maybe try to get em down on price a little. Still not a bad deal. |
Mine was a 2000 that had 12k miles on it. I paid $3000 for it with some decent mods
i got my 98 a year and a half ago for $3100. it had carbon yoshi's, ss brake lines, sargent seat, penske double clicker, racetech'ed forks, jet kit, and had been safety wired. it needed tires and a chain. it had 30,000 miles on it at the time. it now has 42,000

Shit my bike as 67k, and beat the crap out of it. I roasted my clutch, and starter clutch, and my carbs are giving me issues, but that has to do with the titanium needles, The valves are spot on, and never adjusted.
I'd offer 3500$ then you'll feel you made out on the deal my 99' had 16,000 miles on it and I paid 3800$ though so what do I know!!! when he fired it up I knew I was riding it home!!!
If it had 65,000 miles, or was a Harley, I might be a little concerned.
My VTR now has over 90,000 km (or about 55,000 miles) and still runs like a top. It starts right up every time and is crisp and a blast to ride (no oil burning either).
I just picked up another 98 last night for $1500 off of Craigs List. It has 40K and the engine sounds tighter than my other 98 which has 30K. I got a good deal in spite of the fact the right plastics are gone. It has an Ohlin rear shock, racetech front end, stainless steel brake lines and Jardine high mounts.
I bought mine with 31k on the clock and it's got 38 now, just since May. Still runs beautifully.
I'm loving this thread, makes me feel confident about my '98 I just picked up with 55,000km (35,000 miles) for $3400 CA.. I was a little worried she was too high mileage, but i should be able to get another 20,000 out of her if i decide too :)

Read the thread titled "High Mileage Commuters" for a touch of the mileage thing. There are some real eye-openers in that thread. I think that's why everybody mods them so hard. They are a very strong horse for a very long time!
Thats high miles for the $3900. Bought my 99 bone stock from a school teacher. 5500 miles-$4000 and thought that was a little high then, But it was like new so I didnt mind ( and dont regret it one bit ) Best 4k I ever spent!

Mines not for sale, so the resale value doesn't concern me.
120,000km so far, lights right up every time, haven't even had to adjust the valves yet. Geoff in Almonte 99VTR - Black, Racetech springs, Ohlins shock coming soon, SS brake/clutch lines, Secdem HP windscreen, Helibars, Sargent, Tailocker, NWS Hugger, Ventura rack system, V&H S4 slipons, Ceramic coating on headers, jetted, APE CCTs |
61,000km here and strong as, 60k service is meant to be timing chains so we shall see what the mechanics say.
