Sounds a bit too good of a deal...make sure a person familiar with the Superhawk looks it over and test rides. Check the title closely. Good luck! I'm partial to the yellow '99.

Check all the usual consumables tires, C&S, pads etc. Is that filler on the fairing panel and on the clutch cover? so see how widespread the crash damage is and if competently repaired.

Gander to see if it still has OEM CCTs and unfinned early R/R which will need replacing.

 Just talked to the owner. He said he replaced only the FRONT CCT. Said the rear one was ok. Oil and coolant were just changed when he did the CCT fix. He replaced the automatic CCT with a manual one. Is that a good idea ? He said previous owner tried to fix the fairing with bondo but did not do a good job. How much for the new style r/r ?
As far as crash damage, he said it was laid over at low speed.

Come to think of it. I think I'm gonna pass on this one. Thanks for all the help !!

Better than nothing with having the front CCT changed to a manual as its commonly the front one that fails. Had it failed as that could have caused valve damage - Can you do a compression test? as when the OEM fails the valves generally bump into the piston to various degrees causing grief.

To be safe get a rear manual CCT from Krieger Cam Chain Tensioners, and it the easier of the two to replace following the workshop knowledgebase instructions - as the timing has got to perfect when removing the old CCts and replacing it- otherwise the timing chain can jump & skip.

As for R/R Ronayers.com Microfiche Honda>Motorcycle>2002>VTR1000F>WIRE HARNESS

or get a 2nd hand finned one from ebay for ebay Honda Blackbird, CBR ones, or even CBR125 fit or search here for mosfets R1/R6 ones for ultra reliability.

+1 that's a remarkably low price, you could almost buy it and flip it!

think thats a good deal..my 99 was just apraised by insurance for 2400. Oh as for plastics those can be replaced for $505. Custom painted (all plastics in package as well as smoked windshield and custom paint) on ebay Hong Kong as thats what I am doing for mine. Lol you could even make money on the bike by getting clear title and smack a deer or something (if consience doesn't get ya) and claim on insurance , that will get you close to 2400. - deductable (deductable on mine was $500. ). And I still got $1500.
