1988 Honda Hawk GT 650

Looking for a new toy for the summer: http://sandiego.craigslist.org/csd/mcy/1183190210.html

Any thoughts?

Good little bike.. The better SV650 before there was a SV650.

I have no idea about the value, but looks clean and not too much risk ($1500). And...What is "firm" anyway.

nice looking bike, definitely worth $1500 if all is right with it...

I have the exact same bike. Looks like the exhaust can has been rattle canned and the there is a taped up crack on the usual taillight section that breaks. Looks pretty clean though. If it's in good condition like he says $1500 is good deal.

I sold my '88 in '07 for $1850. It had many mods and was in pretty good shape. 23-24k miles, new clutch, jet kit, pipes......
I have a soft spot for these old bikes. They handle fantastic but....they are getting old. I can almost guarantee the rear shock is worthless by now. The range is a little worse than my SH. I had to visit the pump every 100mi. I recommend the RC31, with the right amount of care, they are wonderful machines. My wife has a '02 SV650. Much more power:D. Check them out too. Performance parts for the GT are getting hard to come by.

I wouldn't set off cross-country but get around to the pop shop and grocery this would do just fine - for a long time - for cheap. At $1500 you're safe - be safe and have a good time. I've just inherited a small Suzuki single cylinder - might be a 250 cc at the largest (might even be a 125). It's condition is unknown but I'm going to get working on it soon. I'll post some pictures soon. I've been busy with this latest Interceptor fiasco. The beer store is .7 miles that way <<<<< and the grocery store is .6 miles >>>>>. I don't wear flipflops ever - even on a sidewalk. I wear shorts once in ten years. It's jeans and hikers everyday for me. I would wear a helmet maybe not a full face, eye protection and I would wear upper body armor but maybe a lighter weight.

That's great. But don't kid yourself that jeans are going to do anything to protect.

An SV will run off and hide from a Hawk GT. A buddy of mine had one years ago. Kinda fun bike, but painfully slow. Really painfully slow unless highly modified.
