What to use to remove burnt rubber on cans?
When riding two-up my girls boot soles tend to melt on the cans and I have been trying to use nevr-dull with no result. I don't want to scratch the finish on the OEM cans. Any Ideas would be helpful. Thanks, Squid.

Heat gun and a wooden scraper; and some heat tape or guards for the future? The chemical route may try goo gone (Without the heat).

I've always had very good luck with 4 naught (#0000) steel wool. Then polish the metal afterwards. 4 naught steel wool also works VERY awesome with rusty chrome! Takes it right off. Try it, you'll be suprised how well it works.

I agree with the 0000 steel wool, or maybe slightly coarser but experiment.
One other shocking use for the 0000 steel wool is to deglaze/de-pitt old windshields. I makes it like a new windshield (on a car not bike) |
+1 to using steel wool on car windshields. That's what most shops use to get off over spray from painting.

If you want to do it the easy way clean it after a ride when the pipes are very hot and the rubber is soft. It comes off MUCH easier. It's like a rock when it's cold. Make sure you wad the towel up thick though so you don't fry your fingers. That and a little Mother's and it'll come right off. You can also always wet sand. If you're a perfectionist 1000 (or start coarser if necessary and work your way up), 1500, 2000 and some Mothers... The stainless is obviously a little harder than aluminum but you can still make it (or pretty much any other metal) shine like chrome just the same. There are also a ton of different companies that sell polishing wheels and compounds if you like using power tools (and saving a bunch of time). There's nothing you're going to do to the cans cleaning them that can't be polished back out fairily easily. As with anything you clean whether it be carpet or mufflers for your bike just start off mild and work your way up.

Thanks you guys. I will be trying this out today.

It will work, it just depends how bad you want it.
Maybe get your chick involved if she isnt busy shopping for new shoes. |

Many years ago when men were fellas and women were dames (mates & birds in Limey Land) us Rockers with our cobbled rear sets and Wiley Clubmans made our own heel guards a bit of 6061, some ally pop-rivits and a couple hose clamps. 20 minutes if you are nutz about polishing

She has all the shoes she needs, but even if she wanted another set she would be right there with me cleaning. Every Saturday we wash the bike together. Hell she even helped change out the CTT's.
