Sorry for the cross posting on other forums for those members who are also there but I just can't contain myself! The adrenaline is still flowing. LOL

Here's some photo proof of me at least being next to this awesome machine. Yes, I did ride it but no pics or video of that. grrrr. I'll maybe get to ride it some more later on. It's simply a truly amazing bike.

You lucky bastard you!

I think that we all are expecting a ride report.

trinc 07-04-2008 08:26 AM

there were 3 desmo RR's at the last trackday i attended ( motocorsa ). 1 of them was owned/riden by Mike Czysz... needless to say he had ZERO problems getting around me :).

thats fucking awesome. im pretty sure last time i saw one of those in a magazine, they were going for $72,000. a little too much for me, but id love to ride one!

Hotbrakes 07-05-2008 10:19 AM

I saw one at a trackday last week too. One day old. At first it was just another Duc, then it rode by me in the pits...WOW! It sounded like it was going to eat everything at the track, even in front of it. How can I make my VFR sound like that?

To answer some questions:

A good friend owns it so no kidneys were harmed or harvested. Motor has real good torque down low especially considering it revs to 16 or 18k or some such. It also revs up like a 2 stroke. We were amazed to see 10k on the tach while just blipping the throttle in neutral.

No real ride report as I merely rode it around the block a couple of times and only got up to 3rd gear. Do I need to mention again that it cost more than my first house and it isn't mine? LOL

It's just so damn light and responsive. The suspension felt plush and not stiff. The brakes are outstanding; strong, of course, but with great feel.
That's what always first comes to mind when I think about it. Carbon friggin' everywhere. Even the seat is carbon, thin and ultra light yet not uncomfortable.

Next is the exhaust note. With the official race exhaust installed, it's spine tingling and loud but not open header loud. It sounds just like the 990's from the 06 motogp paddocks because, well, it is one! Also that rear exit sort of amplifies it too. Didn't feel any heat from it but it was a cool night. NO, your VFR, even with open headers, won't sound like it. At idle, it sounds like a Ferrari while the VFR sounds more like a chev V8. HTH.

Here's another shot without me in it so as not to ruin any more of your (ahemmm) "private moments" with the Italian beauty. This is literally right out of the crate. Install screen and mirrors, charge battery and add fuel/oil and your ready to go.

This thing on your favorite track or deserted road would easily be the most fun you could legally have.

marmaladedad 07-05-2008 04:11 PM

Congrats you lucky dog!

Where is the obligatory outside-coffee-shop picture? ;)

inderocker 07-10-2008 12:40 AM

wow! What is the retail price tag on that thing?

superbling 07-10-2008 06:45 AM

$72k USD

RCVTR 07-10-2008 08:09 AM

Very cool. the ducatis were by far the baddest, loudest 990s on the track.
that is a truly special motorcycle.

Your Chevy V8 analogy doesn't quite work. At least the VFR is a flat-plane crankshaft. More like a Ferrari 308 than a cross-plane Chevy 350.

but the Ducati is full of titanium bits.

VTRsurfer 08-09-2008 02:39 PM

Holy S#@* Batman...late this AM my wife and I were at the local Ducati, MV, Aprilia dealer when a guy was talking to a salesman next to their floor display DesmosediciRR.

Meanwhile, while I'm admiring the Desmo and drooling with my tongue hanging out, everyone in the dealership steps outside. That guy is going for a test ride on a demo Desmo, and everyone is outside to watch his departure.

I have never heard a more visceral sound from a motorcycle. Like Doug said, when he blipped the throttle it sounded like it had no flywheel. Then he rode off, in sandals no less. This dealer has sold at least 16 of these (last time I asked was 3 weeks ago) at $72.5k.

I would pay $100 just to sit on one and blip the throttle a few times. It sounds like the mechanical equivalent of a lion roaring. WOW!

Oh, and that $72.5k price is more than 3 times what I paid for my first house in Santa Ana,CA in 1971.
