About useless IMHO...

but last I checked, this is still America, and if you want it...well...

Remember, we don't need a motorcycle that will go over 70 mph for everyday road use....but we want it...so, there you have it..

CentralCoaster 04-16-2009 07:54 PM

Oooh I don't even have an AR but I want one.

ARs are still illegal "assault weapons" in Kali. Can't buy one legal. Not sure if they'd ship a lower to a Ca. FFL or if an FFL would handle the transfer.

OK that's brutal, we have some of the most stringent gun laws anywhere here in Canada and even we are allowed to own AR's!!! I have three M-4's all from DPMS and absolutely love them.

Randman 04-16-2009 08:39 PM

I thought CA was bankrupt? hmmm..scratches head...perhaps they should allow them, it would increase cash flow!! LOL

Mostly you can't BUY them in Ca. You can own them legally if you bought them before the law took effect (1989). And if you registered them. The State Dept. of Justice estimates compliance with the registration requirement at 7%-13%, wildly optimistic in my opinion.

Plus folks can go to gun shows out of state and buy whatever they want. The law is mostly unenforced, but you can't go into a Ca. gun store and buy an AR-15. Mini-14s, 'cause they don't have the evil pistol grip, flash hider and bayonet lug, are still legal to buy.

Grizz 04-16-2009 09:38 PM

Although not commonly found is most typical gun stoers in Canada, AR-15 and their varients are not very hard to find.

Yeah. California gun laws suck. Happily a lot of California cops thinks they suck too and once they've decided you are a decent person, that's the end of it.

Except for the "assault weapons", Ca. law is a bit better than Canada. You can still buy pretty much whatever handguns you wish and as many as you wish.

Carrying without a license (near impossible to get in urban counties) is a misdemeanor ( a fine, no jail time).

Even if carrying illegally, if you shoot someone and the shooting is ruled justifiable, you won't be prosecuted for carrying illegally.

If someone forces their way into your home, you are legally justified in shooting/killing them.

tapatio 04-16-2009 11:03 PM

ar-15 jams too often. at least that's been my experience.

Grizz 04-16-2009 11:34 PM

We too can buy pretty much any handgun we want here in Canada as long as it has a 4" barrel or greater, 3" barrels and under are prohibited.

As for protection, we are currently not allowed to carry handguns for any reason. We are only allowed to take them strait to the gun range and back to our home using the most direct route available.

As for someone forcing their way into your home, most people are widely uneducated here in Canada. We are actually allowed to defend ourselves or "Match Force" as it is worded here. They go on to describe several "requirements" that need to be met in order to qualify as a legal defense. Unfortunately, these requirements make it largely illusory and near impossible to actually defend yourself.

1. I must have taken every step to avoid the situation.
2. I must have tried to use every reasonable means of escape.
3. I must be able to prove that I could reasonable assume my life or the life of my family was in eminent grievous danger.
4. I have to be able to prove I first warned the assailant of my intention to defend myself.

Even after all of these requirements have been met, you will immediately be charged with murder and have to secure a lawyer to defend your actions in court. To compound the issue, the police will most likely charge you with improper storage of a firearm since it were outside the safe at the time. Unfortunately, the storage requirements in Canada are written in a way that leaves it open to the interpretation of the responding LEO. If s/he decided they don’t like what you are storing them in, they confiscate everything and you are arrested.

In addition,

1. As a gun owner in Canada, I do not have the right to remain silent
2. I can be detained with out explanation at anytime for up to 48 hours
3. If the police show up at my door I do not have the right to ask to see a warrant nor do they have to secure one prior to kicking in my door.

Anyway, you get the idea…… Check out bill C-68 here in Canada if you get a chance, it will absolutely blow your mind when you see the the list of civil right infractions.

You know, my first exp. was with a friends $1300 bushmaster. That thing malfunctioned almost every other round(w/ wolf ammo.). If Remington ammo was used, it worked flawless....... To me, you think that it would be designed to chew through ANY rounds you put through it!! but I don't know much about the design...there could have been an adjustment??

so what gives?? op. error? or is there more to it?

bundleofgrundle 04-17-2009 07:50 AM

god bless america...

that thing is BA

What gives is the Wolf ammo. It's a steel case with a lacquer or polymer coating. The steel case doesn't expand and seal the chamber the way brass does. Some hot gas and powder residue flows back between the case and chamber wall, mixes with the coating and gums up the chamber.

So you are saying if I try to run E85 in my Superhawk, I can blame any issues on poor superhawk design, and not the fuel? Wolf ammo is sketchy at best, the newer lots are slightly better than the old, but, on the whole, it's not the ammo I would want to stake my life on.

Keep an AR reasonably clean and lubricated, and feed it ammo that meets a minimum standard and it will run forever. Alot of AR's have gotten a bad rap because the owners of these $1300+ guns insist of buying the cheapest crap ammo they can find.

Sorry, let me get off my soap box now...

I was using Wolf ammo. It looks like I'll have to try other ammo :]

j shizzy wizzy 04-17-2009 10:02 AM

I did state that it was flawless with good ammo. BUT, if my life depended on it in a crunch, I would hope it would chew through anything. I've always known wolf to be total crap, but a friend of mine swears his AK will chew through any brand round, always. So now the question is, is the AK more reliable? I am all about reliability with a firearm. The idea of any gun malfunctioning in an emergency scares me to death. As far as pistols, my P220 is always clean and oiled, and has never once malfunctioned on me.

Starbucks Fueled 04-17-2009 10:16 AM

AK's were made to function with enough dirt in them to grow a tree. Hence the loose tolerances.

-1 on the Wolf ammo. I don't buy ammo anymore anyway.

I reload.
