WTF!?! U know that hurt BAD! haha.. but he still took pics before bandaging it up, too.. dedication.. that's dedication.

lynchie 09-22-2009 11:35 AM

WTF, was he drunk???

jonesey 09-22-2009 12:17 PM

You can imagine that the only reason he was able to take pics while he was waiting for the ambulance was a mixture of shock/numbness.
I bet 2-3 days later they will have hurt like f*&k.
OUCH!!!!!!

joshuatest 09-22-2009 12:35 PM

WTF....

That sucks...

I wouldn't get to critical though... Yes, stupid mistake... But we all do stupid stuff from time to time, and usually walk away unharmed, but its possible for stuff to happen to anybody...

Little_Horse 09-22-2009 12:42 PM

When you are telling yourself "I will just be careful" it may be time to rethink a different approach.

jbaxx 09-22-2009 01:55 PM

I remember one time thinking that I would just put my bike in gear and spray some lube on the chain while it sat there idling on the stand. Soon as I put it in gear, I took one look at that thing spinning like a buzz-saw and just said Hell-No and shut it off.

This guy lubes the chain and then sticks his hand up there with a rag??? Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb.

At least he takes responsibility and posts up as a warning to others.

captainchaos 09-22-2009 02:12 PM

It's easy to be critical but we ALL know we've done stupid shit before. It sucks when you make a mistake, however stupid it may be, that fucks you up for life like that.

Having taught Vocational Automotives for 34 years before retiring, I could go on for days with stupid things students have done (and yes, sometimes me too) that resulted in injury or damage to the vehicle. Quite often these incidents happened after I said "Don't ......" fill in the blank.

And the average age of my students was usually early 30s.

cornandp hit the nail right on the head.

Talk about ruining your pre ride chain cleaning

That just about might ruin my afternoon...

Slap me silly for not always doing that though... most of the stupid things we do just result in a future funny story, not lifelong injury. I feel sorry for the guy.

Duck007 09-22-2009 03:24 PM

Shit! My fingertips almost came off just looking at those pics!
Kinda like when my ankles almost broke watching that movie "Misery".

mboe794 09-22-2009 03:29 PM

I feel sorry for him too. Too bad someone wasn't there to tell him that's not a good idea.

finepooch 09-22-2009 03:57 PM

that looks like... bone??? WOW!!! did the chain go right through the bone? WOW. did it chop the fingers off before they went all the way around the sprocket? WOW!!!!!!

how is he typing?

how does he pick his left nose nostril?

k-d-williams 09-22-2009 04:03 PM

I bet he won't do it again!!!

Moto Man 09-22-2009 04:06 PM

I watched a buddy of mine acidentally cut his finger off with bicycle chain when we were kids. After pulling his chain back on the sprocket, after it came off, he reached down to check the tension on the chain while we were pedling away and bam it sucked his finger into the front sprocket.

finepooch 09-22-2009 04:16 PM

hahaha, i just posted in that thread!

VTRsurfer 09-22-2009 04:32 PM

A mechanic, that worked at a Honda dealer with a good friend of mine back in the 70s, lost 2 fingers when he was dirt riding. His countershaft sprocket was slipping off, so he reached down to push it back on while riding.

If I recall correctly his last name was Lachardi, and they called him Three Finger Lachardi after that.
