First manual ride
 

Ok I have driven manual cars and trucks before but that is it until today. In preparation for the completion of my bike I went with my buddy today to see how I was at shifting a manual quad. :eek: lol I almost pooped myself. He has a 09 Yamaha Raptor 700R and that thing was quick. I had no problems at all shifting, as if I've done it all my life. To be honest though, when I hit the gas after first shifting into 2nd I almost threw myself off. Good thing I was holding on lol.

I don't think this applies to sportbikes quite as much, but....be careful when making the transition to a twist grip. I've seen more than one inexperienced guy tear the rear fender off a MX bike because they are not expecting the amount of power and how quickly it is delivered. If you start to lose you weight toward the back it is virtually impossible to let off the gas without bailing entirely.

You are absolutly right. The only thing I was using today for as far as comparing is the actual shifting. 1 down 5 up. No matter if it's a bike or an atv its still clutching with your hand and shifting with your foot. As I said I've only driven manual cars and trucks and turns out it is quite a bit different. Luckily I'm pretty well coordinated so I had no problems. I also realize that a twist throttle will be different than just using my thumb. But hey I'm looking at the bright side, at least on the bike I won't be hitting bumps and dips every 2 feet while I'm trying to hold the throttle steady lol.
