Knowing that guy as I do from following his journeys over the past couple of years, I think he'll have it back on the road pretty soon. The cases look a little bad but could be repairable. I've tried that before (with my VTR in fact) and I couldn't keep it from leaking. But hey, he must change the oil every month anyway...

Inde, convert him to a VTR! with the $$ he gets from the insurance he could get a late model low mileage VTR in great shape.
I think we would all like to know if a VTR can go 200K

I thought for sure it was going to be a story of how the engine finally gave up after that many miles. Nope, it was a crash.
He could get a donor motor and go for another 177,000 miles.

What's up guys? Sorry to bump an old thread, but I just happened to run across this in a google search looking for something else, lol. But since I was here I figured I'd post a little update on this whole situation in case anybody might care

I ended up buying the bike back from the insurance company and fixing it back up.... got it back on the road April 5th and it's been running flawlessly ever since. I've logged 19,000 miles since I got her going again in April, and she's taken me through Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Maryland without even so much as a hiccup. At 196,400 something now and going strong as ever! And no, I didn't replace the engine, just the broken stuff

I posted a really long rebuild thread on the other forums... check it out if you have some free time (I've been told it takes a good hour to get through if you read everything, lol.... 200+ pictures)

I did catch this disappointing story on VFRD. I've always prided myself on the long lives I get out of my machines so I can imagine how bummed you were when the crash occured. Glad to hear you brought her back. After all, it IS a Honda. They can take a bashing and keep on going. Congrats and thanks for posting the update. I thought for sure it would be gone for good!
