2003 CBR600

Well, a friend o' a friend went and got his womern preggers. He is trying to sell his 2003 CBR to me for 3800$ as he "really needs the money, and doesnt have time to wait on a sale". I went and looked at it and rode it and it was pretty awesome. For the price, I feel that i should get it. I sold my R6 when i got my superhawk, and to tell you the truth i have missed having the yamaha....they are just 2 different bikes.

the CBR he is selling is pretty much flat stock and it didnt appear that he had done anything to it. he said he bought it to do wheelies, but he just quit trying when he couldnt do it. anywhoos...what say you guys?

I say I need a race bike for the '09 WERA race season and it sounds like a good bike. :p

If you are looking to go back to an I4, go for it. The RR may have the worst seat out of all of the 600s, but I think it's the most fun.

thats a salvage bike and it would cost me 1000 bucks to get to green bay and back....but good lookin out.

killer5280 01-29-2008 09:05 AM

Those are fun bikes but are absolutely anemic in the "midrange."

Condor 01-29-2008 09:23 AM

NOT looking at going back to an I-4 for good. I will never give up my V2 torque. just looking for another bike to add to the mix. i couldnt talk the wife into letting me get the Hypermotard....she thinks 13k is too much for a bike unless its a goldwing.

my reasoning is for the money i would be putting into the hawk to make the suspension upgrades, etc., i could just get a bike thats MADE for that kind of riding. was actually looking at one of the 03 RC51's that is for sale in the area...trade up the hawk for the RC, and add the CBR. If i was single, this wouldnt be a problem!

Get it......
There is always a need for another bike. $3800 sounds reasonable enough, and there is a reason you see a ton of the 600's around. They are fun as hell for thier intended purpose.

That said, I just picked up a XR600 for the same reasoning.....just another bike to add to the stable to ride and enjoy.

Thats a great deal...Can you spot me?

KindredGhost 01-29-2008 05:36 PM

Sure! Why not? Worst case scenario, you don't want it anymore and sell it for pretty close to what you paid him for. Especially if you're helping a friend out. He may even buy it back from you... you never know...

How much are 03 600rr's going for anyway?

Hawkrider 01-29-2008 08:46 PM

Don't think that the 600RR won't be needing suspension upgrades as well. The '03-04 had the RSU forks (not inverted), and have progressive springs. They went to inverted for '05. It's got the Pro-Link swingarm/shock arrangement so that's a plus. Also in '05 the bike lost a little under 20#, gained hp, and got better brakes.

Depends on the mileage and how bad you want it. $3800 for a low mileage, good condition bike isn't a bad deal. Check the oil condition, chain and sprockets, and tires. Those are the bigger money items to replace and the oil condition will tell you how well the owner took care of it. Warped brake rotors can be pricey too.

killer5280 01-29-2008 09:14 PM

The stock forks on the 2003 600RR are right side up, but the tubes are 45mm. That shouldn't be a problem for anything other than full on race use. The brakes are awesome.
The midrange power is pitiful and the seat is a brick, but the bike handles great.

Hawkrider 01-29-2008 09:22 PM

Agreed, but there are many advantages of inverted forks that can't be realized with the '03 (without a fork swap). The brakes are awesome compared to the VTR, but back to back with a good set of radial calipers and master they are mediocre.

RK1 01-29-2008 09:46 PM

Retail Blue Book for '03s is $5245 for the F4i and $5610 for the RR. If it's a nice one and you want it, $3800 sounds real good.

That's what I would call "A ringing endorsement"
