Beautiful bike. This dates me, but I'm pretty sure this is the same model that Peter Egan of Cycle World rode and wrote about in one of his first articles in the late '70s, dealing with a ride along the Mississippi River (all the way to New Orleans and back, as I recall).

That’s a very sweet bike.

One of my first bikes was a 550 Supersport. It was one of the most balanced machines I’ve owned with the only real drawback being a silly weak front brake. I think the 400 is an even better machine since it must be down some weight.

I few years ago I came into a little money and wanted to get a vintage machine. I had to decide between a ratty CB400F and a decent RZ350. I went with the RZ, but have always wondered if that was the right decision.

I hope your friend has good luck selling this great-looking machine.

My first Street bike was a CB550F SS as well,, and my first NEW street bike an RZ350, that did double duty as a track bike. :D

So tell you what you buy the CB400, and I'll buy the RZ350 from you :D

Damn that brings back memories. My first street bike was a '77 CB400F That I bought 30 years ago this past spring. I rode that bike everywhere - took it to college in Geneseo, weekend trips to see friends at UBuff, trips to long island, even rode it to Viginia beach and down to the outerbanks twice. Only two tickets, but numerous escapes!
My dad had a '73 CB350 (twin) that I basically grew up on. That bike was physically larger than the 400F and he used to tease me that his twin was more powerful - but not in the twisties and not spinning over 7 grand. I still remember shooting down the twisting road through the center of Geneseo campus, parking my bike at the bike racks in front of Ontario dorm and as I was starting to walk inside having campus public saftey grab me ant tell me they had never recorded a faster speed for any vehicle on that road. He would let me go with a warning but to NEVER ride down that road over 30mph again!
My taste was seriously lacking at the time and I bought a Vetter Rooster fairing and mounted a radio in it. Somehow 3 years later I decided I wanted the new CB650, but came home with a left over GL500i interstate instead.

Memories...
