i'm looking for a set of stock cans for my '98 SH. i bought it with 2bros pipes and they are just too loud to be considered neigborly...

Are they high mount or standard? Consider a trade + cash, depending on what you have. I need a backup in case the single sided Moriwaki project doesn't work out. I'm looking for high mount.

IOW, consider this "first dibs". :)

they're low mount... and i think i'd like to hold on to them rather than trade them away. i guess i'd like to have the option to be the nice neighbor or "that jerk down the hall".

let me know how things work out with the moriwaki project. they make some nice looking gear.

There are some other options.....some company's are making street plugs that go in the back of the can to make them quieter.

part of this is an exercise to see what's going on with the jetting on the bike. i bought is a few days ago and i don't think the PO jetted it when he put the pipe on. it seems to run lean off idle and i want to see the original pipes will help to remedy that. (a little choke around town does the trick now) if the old pipes solve the problem then i'm the nice guy with a smoothly running SH... if not i'm elbow deep in the carbs :)

Where do you live? There may be someone on the forum that could help out with the jetting issues.

i'm in the bay area... san francisco specifically. if there's anyone out here that could give me a hand, that would be great. i'm pretty comfortable with just about any other kind of wrenching but the carbs a little frightening to me... some sort of dark art involved in tuning them.

The Factory jet kit is actually very simple and I've had no ridability issues since I did it. It was my first kit and was a little cautious as well but it's really straight foward.

You might be able to contact Jim Stinnett. He's in the Bay area and just lost his VTR to a deer just last week. Heck, he might even have extra stock cans if you're lucky. He owns and runs www.moto-rama.com. You can get his email address from his site or you could PM him on this site under the name "moto-rama", though I doubt he's showing up here much any more.

Oh, and carbs are easier than you think. Getting them off is the hardest part.

Contact Two Bros directly and inquire about their "Quiet Tips". They were available but not listed in their catalog. Not difficult to install though you will have to drill out the rivets to remove the end cap. I can't remember how much they cost. I had some in my slip-ons and though louder than stock (with a nice mellow rumble), they were not obnoxious. I could not hear them when on the freeway. With the quiet tips installed, you will still be invited to the neighborhood BBQ :).
