WTB 2005 Superhawk

I am looking for a 2005 Superhawk. I am located in the midwest (Illinois), but location won't kill a deal. You can reply to this thread, or PM me. Thanks

Rick

I GOT ONE

I think the 2005 model has the best color....I always get lots of people saying what a cool bike........a few of the younger sportbike crowd...actually don't know what it is?.....I'm toying with the idea of removing the superhawk 996 decal on the front fairing.
Telling everyone it's a only a 650?...
Good luck with finding one.....also little things I like about the 05's is the dimples in the seat cover...don't know why......my bike runs great....best of three superhawks I have owned.
I see a few come up on ebay every now and then.

cabinfever 12-07-2007 12:10 PM

Not an 05, but...

Check my ad in the classifieds for my 2003... Not your color, but its a great bike and I'm in Illinois too! ;)

alive226 12-07-2007 12:35 PM

Thanks guys,

I'll check it out. Also are they any differences between the 03, 04, and 05's? My buddy had a 1998 red one that I thought was the funnest street motorcycle I had ever ridden. Thats why I'm looking for one now.

98-05 almost identical....

the 03 and the 05 are exactly the same except color

The '05 received updated clutch and front brake master cylinders and a textured seat cover.

Make that fluid containers for the clutch and brake... the operational parts are are identical... ie all cosmetics...

This is what she'll look like without the decals... much better IMO. The graphics are just a little bit on the cheesey side, plus the fairings are small enough to where it doesn't look empty without them. I also like clear lenses on this bike... they go well with the color and the "wing" decal.

The internals are the same size but are visually different, don't know if the new shape was an improvement or not. neither master cylinders have any part #'s in common.

DECALS

Yea I think the bike looks better without the decals...
I have been thinking about removing them for awhile now but did not want to ruin the bike in anyway?.....I know I like to only buy all stock and original bikes?
But what the hell I think it looks way cool like that...so this weekend I think I will break out the hairdryer and remove those decals.
Also Anyone know which part number crg lever will replace our brake lever...so far I have had no luck...the one I purchase hopeing would fit did not?....thanks............p.s I really enjoy my hawk.....like having a morden day classic......being a bit of an old fart.....something about having to pull out that choke lever in the mornings to fire her up.......
Hmmmmm I wonder if I could fit a kickstarter?......when I first started biking that was the norm?

Funny... I've always thought the same thing.. hahaha. What a beast it would be on cold mornings!

Yeah, really. The starter has a tough enough time when it's not even freezing, like below 40F.

Tweety 12-07-2007 05:16 PM

I tried kickstarting a 1300cc Hardley once... It was kinda like kicking a fence post... The pedal was a bit stiff... I can't imagine a high comp 996cc would be that different...:(

Scooberhawk 12-07-2007 05:35 PM

The compression ratio shouldn't be much different. Our bike does not have a high compression motor, which is why it runs properly on regular gas, gaining no extra power by upping the octane.

redman 12-07-2007 05:36 PM

I used to own an FLHP 1300cc that I punched out to 93inches with higher comp etc....back before it became the midlife crisis bike. Mucho custom fabrication....put it in a couple of movies and videos when those first started too. 80s....so much fun. Anyway...I used a kickstart only...I weigh 165. No problem...but you have to "get" the rythym of it and give it all..every time.

drew_c14 12-07-2007 05:37 PM

It would have to have a compression relief switch either way, so it really doesn't matter.

inderocker 12-07-2007 05:42 PM

Total thread jack.... SORRY!! But atleast it's keeping it on the opening page. ;)

Birdy 12-08-2007 07:59 AM

I have an '05 I've considered selling. I'll think about it today and get back with you with pics.

alive226 12-08-2007 09:22 AM

Thanks everyone. The info really helps and I didn't nind the thread jacking. Good banter. I am in love with the color of the 05 thats for sure. I'll consider older, but I really like the 05. Thanks again guys,

inderocker 12-08-2007 12:05 PM

This guy has listed his several times on Ebay without sale... he may be flexible on the price by now.

drew_c14 12-08-2007 03:14 PM

8200...is that guy serious?

alive226 12-15-2007 10:33 AM

Well, I emailed back and forth with the guy who is in the Navy. He initially wanted $8k shipped back to Illinois here. I told him no thanks, it was too rich for me and I saw 05's going in the $6k range. He then asked if I wanted it for $6k shipped to Illinois. I was debating it, when he told me he owed $8500 to the bank for the bike. I guess thats why he wanted $8200............. Needless to say I was a little apprehensive about the deal then. He then changed his mind and said he checked the bike and its value is $6900 and he would take an offer in that area. I'll keep looking I guess, but I'm still eyeing a couple of 03's.

Birdy 12-17-2007 10:18 PM

OK all, pics posted on the Member Gallery. See "Birdy".

99-01 are same except for color
02-05 are same except for color (cosmetic items for 05)

inderocker 12-18-2007 09:13 AM

Does anybody know exactly what updates came in '01?

The updates I know about are;
-instrument cluster
-wire harness
-converter unit
-ICM
-clip-on's
-ignition switch
-clutch m/c ('05)
-front brake m/c ('05)
-cush drive
-fork dampening
-fuel tank (U.K. only)

alive226 12-18-2007 09:19 AM

I thought I read somewhere they got a little larger gas tanks, but I'm not sure what year. Only a little bigger I thought I read, about .4 gal larger. Let me know if I am wrong. Also they update the dash at some point with a fuel guage and digital readout. Am I missing anything?

Generation450X 12-18-2007 09:38 AM

Alive226- If you're thinking about a 2003 Hawk, give a look here. It's got new tires, rearsets, Leo Vince exhaust and other performance and cosmetic goodies. I would accept $4500, that would put it delivered to you at about $5000 or so. Title is clean.

I can send more pictures if you are interested.

Gen450x....Thanks and I was considering your bike, as it is beautiful, but I agreed on a price to buy another guys 03. It is closer (I can go pick it up) and will be about $600 less. I'm sure yours will sell quickly as it has some pretty nice add ons.

I'll be starting a new thread with questions.....many questions..

Thanks everyone for your help

Generation450X 12-19-2007 08:15 AM

Alive226: Thanks for the consideration. Good luck, have fun and most of all ride safely your new 'Hawk. You'll hear differently on this forum, but the Tahitian Blue is the most distinctive color of these models.

I think 'Hawks are unrecognized gems. When I describe my bike to other riders and describe it as a V-twin SPORTBIKE, I get a blank look and they ask "VTR?, is that a cruiser?" "No, a S-P-O-R-T-B-I-K-E...."

I love V-twins for the tractability and power they provide at the speeds and RPM that street riding is performed at. I live on the western edge of the Sierra Nevada and the canyon roads are perfect for this bike. The bike can be ridden using only two gears and the throttle (better called a "torque rheostat" on the Superhawk.)

I am selling mine because, at nearly 47 yrs, I need a bike a little more upright. I have a new 2006 KTM 950 Supermoto, another V-Twin.

To anyone else reading this, please consider buying my bike. I need to get it out of my garage to please my wife and to make room for the KTM.
