What's the condition of the packing on these pipes?

Not sure how to evaluate the packing. I can tell you that they are not as "open" as the Devils and quieter.

A rule of thumb is when the packing is starting to go away it will start melting through the joints on the lower portion of the can. I need to get a new can on the VFR - it's abusive even to my ears. Thanks for the info.
