BATTERY!! NOT MY DAY.
So I get my bike out of the shop here's what I had done: install Manuel Cam Tensioners, sync the carbs, check the valves, new spark plugs, oil change and filter, new brake fluid, braided brake lines and new clutch cable. So when i go to see if the bike is ready i am told i need a new battery. OK i drop my other bike off for an oil change and take what I am thinking is my strong running Super Hawk is ready for action......NOT
Ridding with some other sport bike riders on the highway at ***MPH the bike just shuts off and will not restart. First this never happened to me before so I was first afraid but now I am pissed.
After getting a jump at least 10 times (the bike would not run) another rider adjusted the idle.. 0K lets roll! Not! Once the bike got hot it shut off again... I let it cool jumped it after pushing it to a gas station and called the shop.
Here's what I found out. The battery they gave never received an initial charge! i was running around on a dead battery that will never charge!

+1 on the R/R
all classic signs of the regulator rectifier going bad. exactley what happened to me when mine fried.
i recently went to a mosfet R/R which really is the best. i do have my ricks motorsports R/R thats a finned version of the stocker. i used it for a year with no issues. its plug and play with the stock connectors. its not a mosfet but im sure it has years of use on it seeing as the un finned stocker laster about 14 years. its your for $40 shipped if you want it.
regardless look into the R/R before you buy a new battery or something. id bet money that yours fried.

Aw, thats not so bad. Mine died in Brooklyn on the "highway". Had to push it 3 miles in 99* heat! (it felt uphill too) My wife helped push but it was dangerous on a no shoulder highway.
You need a regulator rectifier. Not a big deal. Everyone always mistakes the solution to be more revs (to "charge" the battery) but its not charging at all and all the revs kill it even quicker.
You can get an R1 RR on ebay and new plugs from this guy Connectors

I am not very mechanical. How hard is changing out the R/R?

I just did Roadstercycle.com has a kit and goes straight to the battery. I am about purchase and install. When it comes in. This will be my intro to working on my bike myself. Plus I have a katakana 750 so I can still get around. I barely use my car just went rains need or. need to transport more than myself or below 42 degrees!
Thanks everyone. .. I will let you know how it turns out.

I bought a ZX10 R/R, 2005 or newer, and it's very easy to wire up and install. It's MOSFET, and it works great.
Very simple wiring, but there's so much info out there that it becomes overwhelming.
The R1 R/R has much taller fins and may require grinding. The ZX10 R/R fits just fine.
You'll be amazed at the difference between the OEM unit you're removing and the replacement that's going on.
