Is that the GP version? (brembo monoblocks, front forks, and carbon discs add a cool 15K probably to the R1 cost for sure)

My 2 cents...the technology and performance is mind bending. But really what happened to the looks??? The '98 was fantastic. The '04 even better looking. I thought the '09 was ugly (sounds incredible though), the '15 is hideous...

I personally find the 02-03 version to be the best looking; am not a fan of the bulky look of the 04+ model (notably the undertail exhaust)

Photos like these don't really convey the design elements and the overall proportions very well, IMO. I'm thinking that it looks pretty good. Have to wait till I see one close up and personal.
I give Yamaha credit for not doing some (mostly) weird origami design. That said it's not Italian design either.

The headlights are different.
I wonder how long it will be before the others follow suit?
Sort of like undertail exhausts.
You could do that to a VTR without too much trouble.
